Now that we have all witnessed the return of Goldberg to WWE and are still trying to get rid of the goosebumps we all felt, who else might make the decision to get back in the ring. Who else is thinking they might have one more match left in them?
Fans are waiting to see if the match between Goldberg and Brock Lesnar is just as good as it will be advertised and whether it will mean WWE will work to bring back former stars to try their hand at creating history.
There are plenty of wrestlers who say they think they could get back at it (leave Terry Funk out, please) but talking about it and actually doing it are two different things.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
Still, it’s fun to sit and talk and wonder. And should it happen, WWE either has something special on its hands, or it could be the biggest mistake the company makes with booking.
Here is a look at five potential matches fans would love to see happen between WWE superstars.
#1 Daniel Bryan vs. Kurt Angle
Angle has made it clear he wants to return to WWE. He has also made it clear he wanted his final match of his career to be against the former WWE World Champion and current Smackdown Live general manager. A few things will prevent that from happening.
First, Bryan hasn’t been cleared to wrestle yet and second, Angle is not under a WWE contract. I can see Angle signing a contract to close out his career in the near future, maybe as early as 2017, but there is still no word if Bryan will ever wrestle again.
#2 Sting vs. Undertaker
One wrestler is already retired. The other is on the final journey before he calls it quits. Recent pictures of Undertaker walking around on crutches has everyone speculating when the Dead Man will announce his retirement. In the meantime, we can all hope he returns to WrestleMania 33 with an opponent yet to be named.
Sting has said one of his biggest regrets is not having wrestled Undertaker. Had this been 10 years ago, that match would have been signed, sealed and delivered. Now, we will never know how the outcome would have affected the business.
#3 The Rock vs. Brock Lesnar
This has happened before, but it would cool to see it happen now as these two powerhouses could still tear down the walls of any arena. It has WrestleMania written all over it, but contractual obligations by The Rock and Hollywood will more than likely never allow it to happen.
The anticipation of The Rock and Paul Heyman in the ring together in an epic promo is worth its weight in WWE gold and could be better than the match itself. We talk about the fact there are few opponents on WWE’s roster who are able to give The Beast Incarnate a true test in the ring.
The Brahma Bull is certainly one who can do that.
#4 Brock Lesnar vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin
If you are in favour of this, give us all a “Hell Yeah!” This is one of those matches that has been teased for some time, but Austin has closed the book on it ever happening. Regardless, fans would pay a pretty penny to see these two in the ring.
Another case of Austin’s brash attitude and Heyman’s smarminess creating hype that might be better than the match. How would Austin be able to handle Suplex City with his history of neck issues? We saw Lesnar make quick work of Randy Orton – would the same hold true of the Texas Rattlesnake?
#5 Triple H vs. Shawn Michaels
The fact that Michaels has recently begun working in Orlando at the WWE training facility gives me a glimmer of hope this could happen. Best friends out of the ring and heated rivals in the squared-circle. If there was a modern day clash of Ric Flair and Ricky Steamboat, it is this combination.
They have been partners, part of DX and bitter enemies and in the end, this “feud” is one of the greatest to ever evolve in a WWE ring. If Michaels ever decides he wants to get back in the ring, you can surely bet Triple H might be the one to coax him out of retirement one last time.
