WWE WrestleMania 33: 5 rules for your WrestleMania drinking game

WrestleMania 33 has yet another cheesy tagline

WrestleMania 33 is just around the corner, and if you’re anything like me, you’re planning a viewing party with all of your friends. The Show of Shows is always the most fun when you have a group of friends gathered around a large TV.

One of the best parts of these gatherings is the opportunity to play some really, really fun drinking games! Because everything is better with alcohol, obviously.

If you were drunk at this year’s Royal Rumble, you would’ve found Roman Reigns coming in at number 30 to be hilarious instead of soul-crushingly sad. So, pick up a bottle of your favourite liquor, call your friends and get ready for a WrestleMania party!

Fans drowned out a popular wrestler with 'She's a racist' chants recently

To help you have a tonne of fun at this year’s Show of Shows, we’ve created a drinking game that is guaranteed to give you the best WrestleMania experience! So, without further ado, here are five rules for your WrestleMania 33 drinking game:

#5) Take a sip every time the commentators say “Ultimate Thrill Ride/Show of Shows/Grandest Stage of Them All”

If there’s one thing WWE commentators are notorious for, it’s the overuse of the taglines assigned to the company’s pay per views. This happens every single time a PPV rolls around, and it gets multiplied by a couple hundred million when it’s WrestleMania season.

It’s no different this time around for WrestleMania 33, and if you have been following the build up for the WWE’s flagship event, you’re already sick of hearing the words “The Ultimate Thrill Ride”, “The Show of Shows”, and “The Grandest Stage of Them All”.

To get a nice buzz going for WrestleMania, take a sip every time a commentator says one of the phrases mentioned above. Please keep to only a sip, or you might soon find yourself in the hospital with a case of acute alcohol poisoning, and that is not a good thing.

#4) Take a sip every time the camera cuts to a crowd reaction shot

One of the few great crowd reaction shots

One of the most annoying developments in the WWE’s production these days is that thing they do where they cut to a shot of someone in the crowd whenever something impactful happens in the ring.

It feels incredibly forced and seems to be a strategy for the WWE to show the reactions they want people to see rather than what is actually happening. For example, finding one of the few audience members cheering when Roman Reigns inevitably wins.

There have also been rumours of the WWE using crowd reactions from different shows to push their agenda, but these are unsubstantiated reports as for now. Regardless, we might as well take advantage of this annoying habit.

Every time the camera cuts to one of these reactions shots, take a sip of your drink. Be warned that there are 13 matches on the card this time around, including the pre-show, so you’ll want to pace yourself through the event.

#3) Take a shot every time a WWE legend makes an appearance on the show

These guys understand the drinking game perfectly!

WrestleMania is that one event where the WWE goes all out and brings back a number of crowd favourites to excite the audience over the course of a mammoth show. Last year, for example, we had appearances by Stone Cold Steve Austin, Mick Foley, Shawn Michaels, and as is customary, The Rock.

We’re pretty sure that WrestleMania 33 will be no different and we’ll see a number of beloved figures return to a WWE ring in Orlando come April 2nd. So, with that in mind, take a shot for every legend who makes an appearance on the show.

Since we're kind of sure that there won’t be more than a handful of legends appearing through the course of the entire spectacle, it should be fine to take a few shots and get into the party atmosphere.

Bonus: Down your drink if Stone Cold returns and opens up some beers!

#2) Take a shot for every “This is Awesome/Holy S**t/You Deserve It” chant

A legit “This is Awesome” moment

Time to take a bit of a swing at the WWE Universe now. Live audiences have a tendency to start the overused chants of “This is Awesome”, “Holy S**t”, and “You Deserve It” for every little thing that makes them happy.

The first two chants, in particular, are used even for the most mediocre of matches instead of being reserved for Match of the Year candidates. Of course, with the dearth of great matches on WWE programming, it’s no surprise, I guess.

Anyway, take a shot every time one of these chants starts. This is one of our hardcore rules, so be a little careful with this one, ladies and gentlemen.

#1) Down your drink for every surprise debut or return

Are we going to see the return of the Hardyz?

If rumours are to be believed, there is the potential for a number of high-profile debuts such as Shinsuke Nakamura or Asuka at WrestleMania 33. There are also rumours of some high-profile returns, such as The Broken Hardyz and Kurt Angle.

If any of these things do happen, down your drink for the ultimate drinking rule for this WrestleMania 33 drinking game.

I would like to sign off by saying one final thing: Don’t overdo and abuse alcohol, drink responsibly, and please do not drink and drive. Here’s to a merry WrestleMania 33!
