#2 The 'Greatest Wrestling Match Ever' idea came from Vince McMahon and not Paul Heyman

The 'Greatest Wrestling Match Ever' tagline for the WWE Backlash contest between Edge and Randy Orton has received a lot of flak as a majority of the fanbase is sure that the match will not live up to its lofty hype.

This comes at a time when Paul Heyman has been removed from his role as the Executive Director of RAW. However, Tom Colohue revealed that Paul Heyman was actually not heavily involved with the Backlash storyline featuring Randy Orton and Edge.

Tom noted:

"One thing that made it clear that the writing was on the wall was that Paul Heyman was pretty much not involved in the Edge and Orton storyline at all. It has been heavily scripted outside of him. The branding is something that he wasn't apparently happy with and all in all, Edge and Orton have been working with Vince McMahon directly and the production team rather than Paul Heyman."

Edge and Randy Orton have alluded to the fact in recent interviews that the idea to have the tagline for the match came from Vince McMahon.

Edge told ESPN:

"Vince [McMahon] is a promoter, and he's promoting, but it's like hyperbole. I mean, to me [the greatest match is] not possible. So that takes that pressure out of my mind immediately."

While Paul Heyman was also with Vince McMahon when the idea was pitched to Edge, the plan to push the match as the greatest wrestling match ever was clearly a Vince McMahon call.

Randy Orton revealed during a conference call that Vince did it to see what he and Edge were capable of.

"We've been painted in a corner, and I think Vince did that so he could see what we are capable of. Between the both of us, we probably have 50 years of experience, so even though he hasn't been in the ring and had those injuries, I've had injuries, too, and I feel were two of the best of this generation."
