As the PPV draws closer, let's take a look at five rumors you need to know heading into AEW Full Gear on Saturday night.
#5 Who will be the guest judges for the AEW title match?
Ahead of Full Gear this weekend, All Elite Wrestling made the interesting announcement that three guest judges will be present for the AEW title match featuring Cody Rhodes challenging Chris Jericho.
The stipulation in the match is that the guest judges will hold a vote to determine the winner of the match should the bout's 60 minute time limit expire before a winner is named. Speculation abounds as to who the guest judges will be for the AEW title match, and several legends come to mind.
Firstly, WWE Hall of Famer Diamond Dallas Page could be a guest judge, as he recently appeared on AEW TV and would fit in well as a judge for the main event at Full Gear.
Fellow WWE Hall of Famer, Jake 'The Snake' Roberts, who previously appeared in video packages hyping AEW's Double Or Nothing PPV, could also be a guest judge, as could Bret Hart, who appeared on AEW PPV to introduce the Heavyweight Title.
Finally, rumors have been rampant that recently released WWE SmackDown executive director, Eric Bischoff, could be announced as a surprise judge, as he is now free to work wherever he wants.
#4 Jake Hager could set up his first match in AEW
Former WWE Superstar Jack Swagger, now known as Jake Hager in All Elite Wrestling, made his presence felt in AEW when he made his surprise debut on the premiere episode of Dynamite.
Hager has aligned himself with Chris Jericho and the Inner Circle, however, despite officially joining the AEW roster, Hager is yet to make his in-ring debut with the company.
Hager has been absent from the ring due to his status with Bellator, and he wanted to wait until his recent MMA bout concluded before he steps inside an AEW ring. With Hager's third MMA match in the books, he is now free to compete in the ring for All Elite, meaning it's very possible his first match and feud in the promotion could be set up at the upcoming Full Gear PPV.
It's more than likely that members of the Inner Circle will attempt to involve themselves in the main event at Full Gear this weekend on behalf of Chris Jericho, and Hager could make his presence felt, perhaps setting up a future Hager vs Cody Rhodes match in the process.
#3 CM Punk once again remains a looming figure
Attached to every pro wrestling PPV are seemingly unending rumors that former WWE Superstar CM Punk could make a surprise appearance or debut, and this weekend's AEW Full Gear PPV is no exception.
Several weeks ago, it was reported and later verified by Punk that he auditioned for the new WWE Backstage show, making a return to WWE more of a possibility.
However, it looks like Punk's audition for a role on the new WWE FS1 show did not pan out as he had hoped, and he admitted in a recent interview with Barstool Sports' My Mom's Basement podcast that he never heard back from FOX regarding his tryout.
"I did the FOX thing. They asked me to come out and I was already in LA, so I went into the FOX studios. I guess you could call it an audition? I haven't heard a thing.
Renee Young and Booker T, I haven't seen either of them in 5+ years. I think Renee is great, that's the kind of thing she is built for. Booker, to me, he's Booker; he's always laughing and he's good for that kind of role."
With Punk's WWE return looking unlikely, the door could once again be open for him to make his long-awaited AEW debut at Full Gear.
#2 Could Impact Wrestling have a presence at AEW Full Gear?
Shortly after All Elite Wrestling was announced, the company stated that it would continue to nurture working relationships with promotions outside of AEW.
While Impact Wrestling is not a promotion with which AEW currently works, Impact issued an interesting challenge back in October which had the pro wrestling world buzzing with anticipation.
When Matt Jackson of The Young Bucks tweeted a photo of him and his brother wrestling in Impact Wrestling as the tag team Generation Me earlier in their careers, Impact's Scott D'Amore retweeted Jackson's tweet and added the following challenge:
Let’s do it! As @THETOMMYDREAMER would say no politics, no BS, just wrestling. I wonder what @fakekinkade & @SuperChrisSabin are up to? Generation Me vs. The Motor City Machine Guns! Why do you say @MattJackson13 & @NickJacksonYB? Are you ready to #CrossTheLine#ThisIsImpact"
Could the tweets from Matt Jackson and Scott D'Amore be hinting at a possible Impact and AEW rivalry on live TV? Only time will tell, and it certainly would create a ton of buzz should an Impact Wrestling team interfere in the Bucks vs Santana and Ortiz match at Full Gear. After all, Santana and Ortiz are also former Impact Wrestling stars.
#1 Former WWE Superstars could make surprise appearances
Since the inception of All Elite Wrestling, several former WWE Superstars like Chris Jericho, Shawn Spears, and PAC have all signed deals with AEW, and rumor has it that more former WWE Superstars could be eyeing a debut with AEW in the near future, and Full Gear could feature surprises in the form of talent debuts.
A recent report from WrestlingNews revealed there is quite a bit of unrest in the WWE locker room, with some talents considering making the jump to AEW.
"Let’s just state the obvious, Vince is still in charge and nothing will change until he steps down and that might not happen for another 10 years or more. A lot of guys realize this and some will take the money, but some guys have a lot of money saved up and that AEW schedule looks really good.
"I don’t know how many of us watch AEW, but I know a few guys and girls here that watch the show every week. You can’t deny that their shows are great."
While no names have been revealed as possible talents seeking an AEW debut, there are a host of free agents who could make an impact this Saturday night, including Virgil who made a surprise video appearance on Dynamite this week.
