WWE has witnessed a huge number of top-class heels throughout its history. Legendary superstars like Ric Flair, Randy Savage, and Vince McMahon himself has proven us how important a heel is in the world of pro-wrestling.
There have been many instances of a heel turn changing superstars careers and pushing them to the top level. A great recent example is none other than "The Man" Becky Lynch, who recently won the main event of WrestleMania 35 and became the RAW and SmackDown Women's Champion.
There are many more superstars in the current roster who could benefit a lot by turning heel and giving a new direction to their characters. Seeing these babyfaces turn heel would surely be a shocking yet amazing experience.
In this article, let's take a look at the 5 shocking heel turns that we can witness this year in WWE. Do let us know who do you think would succeed the most as a heel?
#5 Finn Balor
To many fans who haven't followed Finn Balor's career, he seems like a nice sweet guy who smiles at everything and spreads happiness. But to those who have watched him before when he wasn't in WWE know how vicious of a heel he could be.
Finn Balor, formerly known as Prince Devitt, was the guy who formed and started the infamous Bullet Club in New Japan Pro Wrestling. His work as a heel there and as the leader of this villainous group was amazing. It's tough to believe that Finn went from that ruthless person to be a top babyface in WWE.
At WrestleMania 35, Balor stepped into the ring as the Demon King, and there was just something very amazing about his monstrous side as he growled and scared his opponents. That's the Balor that WWE needs. Not a normal guy who gets beaten up by all the heels time and again.
2019 could well be Balor's year if he turns heel and reforms WWE's version of Bullet Club, the Balor Club. He had a short stint with Karl Anderson and Gallows, but with all of them as heels, this group can cause so much havoc to everything in their path.
Turning heel could also sky-rocket Finn Balor to the main event scene and maybe we can soon see him as the WWE/Universal Champion.
#4 Seth Rollins
After becoming the face of Monday Night RAW last year, Seth Rollins won the 2019 Royal Rumble and announced to challenge Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship.
He has the clear babyface in the feud, even getting beaten up by Brock time and again. But then something happened on the RAW before 'Mania, and Seth decided to low-blow Lesnar in order to stand a chance against him.
Now if this wasn't surprising enough, he again low-blowed The Beast at WrestleMania during their match and went on to win the Universal Championship by pinning Lesnar in the middle of the ring.
Now, this new attitude of his is pretty interesting, as he is neither a proper heel nor a standard babyface. All this could change soon as Rollins could shock everyone by turning into a full-fledged heel.
Currently, all the two main men's championship and women's championship are held by 3 babyfaces. If you were to ask me, who amongst the 3 could turn heel to maintain the balance, I'd definitely suggest Seth Rollins.
#3 Sasha Banks
Sasha Banks and Bayley won the newly introduced Women's Tag Team Championship at Elimination Chamber by defeating 5 other teams. It's interesting to note that these two have been a part of a long storyline, in which WWE has time and again teased one of them turning on the other.
With them losing the tag titles, it looks like finally The Boss can turn on the hugger and beat her up. If you ask me, they could have done this at WrestleMania, in somewhat Johnny Gargano-Tomasso Ciampa style (not comparing, just giving an example).
Sasha and Bayley can have a feud, and later Sasha can move on to bigger things, hopefully in the title picture. We all know how great she could be as a heel, as was proven through her performance in NXT. This would also give her a new and fresh character.
#2 Big E
Big E has been an integral part of The New Day and has played a huge role in helping Kofi to achieve his dream and win the WWE Championship. Not many know or remember this, but before joining the main roster, Big E held the NXT Championship and had a good run with it.
Though on the main roster he hasn't been pushed much as a singles superstar. Big E's athletic and perfectly built body makes him look very impressive and a superstar worth main event caliber.
With Kofi winning the WWE Championship, my prediction is that Big E will turn heel sometime down the line, probably costing him the title and starting a feud with him. If planned nicely, this feud could lead to Big E becoming the WWE Champion. This guy deserves the main event spot, and if given a chance, he can prove how amazing a heel he could be.
#1 AJ Styles
Pretty much like Finn Balor, AJ Styles has been a great heel back in New Japan Pro Wrestling. He also is a former Bullet Club leader and has been a huge part of the faction's history.
Unlike Finn, AJ has been a heel during his WWE run, but I believe there's a lot more he can achieve as a heel in the current scenario. AJ joining hands with Finn and forming WWE's own Bullet Club would be a badass faction and would attract fans towards the product.
If not this, then he can move to RAW after the superstar shake-up, turn heel, and feud with Seth Rollins for the Universal Championship at SummerSlam. A perfect and shocking way of pulling off his heel turn would be to make him come out after one of Seth's match and congratulate him, moments before turning heel and beating him down to the mat, claiming "I am the best to ever step foot in this ring!"
