The 2018 calendar year has been a roller-coaster ride for us as fans of professional wrestling.
All of pro-wrestling and sports-entertainment was shaken up after Roman Reigns vacated his WWE Universal Championship on the October 22nd, 2018 episode of Monday Night RAW -- revealing the fact that he'll have to step away from in-ring competition for some time, in order to deal with the unfortunate return of his leukemia.
In the days that followed, Brock Lesnar competed against Braun Strowman for the vacant WWE Universal Title at the Crown Jewel event on November 2nd, in a match where the "Acting General Manager" of RAW, Baron Corbin, attacked Strowman with the title belt before the matchup started. Lesnar took advantage of that, defeated Strowman, and once again captured the Universal Championship.
I'd like to note here that over the past few days, the professional wrestling world has been surprised by recent rumors that the WWE is currently planning to have Seth Rollins face Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 35 on April 7th, 2019. As strange as that sounds, the reports also noted that Lesnar's opponent could possibly change in the weeks to come, and that him facing Rollins isn't guaranteed!
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
Amidst all the ongoing chaos in the world of professional wrestling, today, we take a special look at a few WWE Superstars other than Seth Rollins, whom the WWE could book in a feud with Brock Lesnar for WrestleMania 35...
#5 Braun Strowman could finally defeat Brock Lesnar, at WrestleMania 35
I've received quite a few questions after Crown Jewel (some of them quite passionate!), in which certain sections of fans have expressed their disappointment at the way Braun Strowman has been booked in recent weeks. Well, to be honest, we've got to understand here that Strowman will eventually capture the Universal Title.
However, most fans of "The Monster Among Men" were quite angry and disappointed when Lesnar pinned him once again, denying Strowman an opportunity to hold the RAW brand's biggest prize. In fact, most fans have been demanding that the WWE must avoid booking Strowman vs. Lesnar for the Royal Rumble or WrestleMania 35, because if he loses to Lesnar thrice in a row at high-profile PPVs, it'll severely damage The Monster's on-screen character.
After all, who could forget the time when Lesnar absolutely destroyed Strowman at No Mercy on September 24th, 2017, and of course at Crown Jewel on November 2nd, 2018!
However, there is a high probability that WWE may give us a third high-profile PPV match between Lesnar and Strowman for the Universal Title at WrestleMania 35. Honestly speaking, I feel the next Superstar I've noted is a much better, fresher matchup for The Beast at 'Mania...
#4 Drew McIntyre's strong booking hints that WWE wants him to face Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 35
"The Scottish Psychopath" is the perfect Superstar to dethrone the reigning, defending, undisputed WWE Universal Heavyweight Champion of the world Brock Lesnar! (*Read in Paul Heyman's voice).
Let's face it, with Roman Reigns recovering from his leukemia battle, and RAW's other top stars such as Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose currently being involved in a highly personal feud against each other; only a few Superstars other than McIntyre pose a real threat to Lesnar.
This is a very important reason why I believe that the ongoing rumors regarding Seth Rollins challenging Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 35, are not going to come to fruition.
I'd like to remind you how the WWE has booked Drew McIntyre over the past several weeks on RAW, and although most of the feuds he's been booked in have been a tad rushed and not given him a singles title yet; his "squash" match victory over Kurt Angle is a glaring sign why we could definitely see McIntyre challenge The Beast on The Grandest Stage Of Them All -- WrestleMania...
#3 John Cena could face Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 35 to win his first Universal Title and break Ric Flair's record
Firstly, I'd like to confess that I'm a huge fan of John Cena. The Leader Of The Cenation has always stayed true to his values of "Hustle, Loyalty, and Respect" -- and even in the toughest of times, Cena has inspired members of the WWE Universe all around the world.
Cena is currently tied with professional wrestling legend and WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair, at 16 reigns as a World Champion in pro-wrestling. Cena defeated then-WWE Champion AJ Styles in a title matchup at the Royal Rumble PPV on January 29th, 2017 -- tying Flair's record of 16 World Title reigns.
However, Cena soon lost the WWE Championship after he was beaten down and eliminated by Bray Wyatt at the Elimination Chamber PPV on February 12th, 2017. Since then, Cena hasn't been able to win a World Title, and resultantly, hasn't broken Flair's record yet.
Make no mistake about it, friends! Cena breaking The Nature Boy's legendary record would be an iconic moment in WWE and professional wrestling history. Besides, Cena has never held the Universal Title.
It's obvious that if WWE doesn't go with Braun Strowman or Drew McIntyre to face The Beast at 'Mania, it will be John Cena who takes on Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 35 to win the Universal Championship for the very first time and break Flair's record...
#2 WWE could swerve us by having Lars Sullivan face Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 35
I'd like to thank my colleague Danny Hart over here, for noting how impressed Brock Lesnar had been with Lars Sullivan. As noted, Sullivan debuted in the sport of professional wrestling at WrestleMania Axxess in March of 2015, leading up to WrestleMania 31.
Now that we've been discussing the biggest signs why Lesnar is likely to face someone other than Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 35, I'd like to point out that the WWE has recently been going all in with their promotion of Lars Sullivan!
The company has been airing vignettes of Sullivan's upcoming main roster debut on both Monday Night RAW as well as SmackDown Live, and while it's unknown as to which brand he'll end up on, the fact that the first vignette aired during the high-profile Survivor Series PPV (November 18th, 2018), proves that WWE have big plans for "The Rocky Mountain Monster".
Another interesting factor we have to consider over here is that out of The Beast's possible opponents we've noted in this discussion, Braun Strowman, Drew McIntyre and John Cena, have a good chance of actually defeating Lesnar at WrestleMania 35.
However, there's a good chance that the WWE swerves us all, and books Sullivan to challenge Lesnar at 'Mania. But if that happens, the chances of the WWE booking Sullivan to defeat Lesnar are extremely low...
#1 Bobby Lashley or Elias could shock the world by defeating Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 35
All right, before every Brock Lesnar fan on the planet gets out the pitchforks, hear me out. By no means do I want to see Lesnar being squashed by any WWE Superstar. That said, the WWE could very well book The Beast to drop the Universal Title in a back-and-forth competitive match against a fellow top RAW Superstar.
I'd like to hereby assert that the Superstars whom I've mentioned earlier in our discussion are more likely to face Lesnar at WrestleMania 35, than Bobby Lashley or Elias.
Nevertheless, by booking Lashley vs. Lesnar, the WWE could finally give us MMA/WWE crossover fans the dream match in a WWE setting. Additionally, Lashley -- who has always been one of the hardest-working performers this business has ever known -- could finally win a World Title in the WWE realm...Bear in mind, Lashley has held World Titles outside the WWE, but never in WWE.
On the contrary, if the WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) chooses to finally capitalize on the WWE (Walk With Elias) movement, we could perhaps see Elias' ascent to true super-stardom!
I've got to confess here, that the MMA and combat sports fan in me hopes WWE gives us Lashley vs. Lesnar at 'Mania, but by booking Elias against Lesnar, the WWE can truly solidify the guitar-wielding fan-favorite as a legit top-tier Superstar for the company.
Furthermore, I'd like to reiterate that while the MMA connection is a sign that WWE could book Lashley against The Beast, in Elias' case, I believe that he's simply so over with the fans right now, that the company would be making a terrible mistake by not capitalizing on the current hot streak he's on.
