Matt Hardy has been one of the pillars of the tag team division since his debut in his promotion, the Trampoline Wrestling Federation. Montel Vontavious Porter earned great fame during his time with the WWE, and Pro Wrestling illustrated ranking him as the 23rd best singles wrestler in 2008.

MVP's character in the WWE was known for running his mouth, and because he said he could win the tag team belt with anyone, Teddy Long paired him up with Matt Hardy. They won the belts and successfully held them for 77 days, finally losing them to The Miz and John Morrison.
