There are some superstars whose gimmicks are evergreen no matter what, but there are some whose gimmicks become stale after a period of time. Its not necessarily their fault everytime, since bookings and storylines play a vital role in a superstar’s success or failure.
The thing that saves them then is repackaging, which basically means that they get new gimmicks as either heels/faces that they can work properly on. So here are 5 Superstars on the current main roster who need repackaging to attain success.
#5 Apollo Crews
This man is one of those performers who are gifted with extremely unique in-ring styles and atheleticism. Whenever he steps into the squared-circle, he gives us the Shelton Benjamin-ish vibes. However, his in-ring skills aren’t the only thing that can be compared to Shelton Benjamin.
Just like Benjamin, Crews is really really underrated and underutilized. It may come as a surprise to some, but Crews does have a lot of charisma. One can tell that after watching his interviews.
If he receives some proper guidance on how to improve his mic-work and how to utilize all the hidden-charisma then WWE might as well find a main event player in Crews. Hence, he needs a gimmick change as soon as possible, since in-ring skills won’t do the magic alone.
#4 The Ascension
When they first debut on the Main Roster, Konnor and Viktor seemed like the duo that would dominate the Tag Team division some day. Certainly, since then, they proved us wrong. Their gimmick restricts them from doing something creative and hence they’ve fallen to the bottom of the tag team division.
There’s a lot of potential in these two men and proper booking can work wonders for them. Also, they do work great together since they’ve been former NXT Tag Team Champions and have been successful at impressing the higher ups.
So why not give them a different gimmick? Scrap the Legion of Doom cosplay costumes and give them some gimmick they can excel in, for the Ascension has certainly descended.
#3 Tyler Breeze
Where do we even start with this guy? He is a beast of a worker and was once a favourite amongst the higher ups. But due to some odd reasons, he has been in Vince Mcmahon’s infamous doghouse. He is a true performer and doesn’t deserve to be in the doghouse.
Ever since he teamed up with Fandango,he has been slowly losing heat and rumours reported of a repackaging that is being planned for the pretty one. According to the same rumours, he was to be pushed to upper mid-card.
Hope that these rumours are true and soon Breeze gets a major push and a title run, that he deserves.
#2 Neville
Gravity and WWE Bookers, both have forgotten the former Newcomer of the Year and NXT Champ. He was out of action for a long time but hasn’t been able to make a significant remark since then.
The man’s work speaks for itself. He is a tremendous worker and a great face but, has been massively underutilized. With the inaugration of the Cruiserweight Division of RAW, it would be only fitting for Neville to enter it, and pursue the Cruiserweight Championship but, with a different gimmick.
The whole “The man who gravity forgot” thing was nice while it lasted. Neville needs something new to get over with the fans. Something that makes him more entertaining. Something that boosts his mic work and character.
My personal favourite would be a heel cruiserweight crushing the newcomers from the CWC.
#1 Roman Reigns
No surprise here now, is there? The Chosen One, the one who’ll take the torch, etc etc. Has he delivered yet? Certainly not. The man has improved as a wrestler but his in-ring skills are really bad. If he is to carry the company on his shoulders then his shoulders better be worthy of it.
Roman Reigns as the enforcer of the Shield was over with the fans and they loved him. But since his face turn, things haven’t been looking great for The Guy. Ofcourse he is a 3-time World Champion already but his reigns have been really short.
Firstly, the whole “THE GUY” thing boosted the already furious fans’ hatred for him. Secondly, literally the most over guy in the world, AJ Styles, was made to look weak against Reigns. Not only does he needs a heel-turn but also a whole change in the gimmick.
Make him an unstoppable feat of strength like Goldberg or Brock Lesnar and don’t hand him the mic unless its needed. This won’t certify him as the top face of the company quite yet, but at least will give the man a respectable career and a great run until he gets over.
