#1 WWE gave up on former NXT Champion, Aleister Black

2020 wasn't a memorable year for Aleister Black

Aleister Black's booking was relatively strong last year. He created a lengthy winning streak. He earned victories against various WWE Superstars before he closed out the year with a pay-per-view over Buddy Murphy.

This momentum carried into start of 2020. Black was regularly featured on WWE programming, and he even defeated Bobby Lashley at WrestleMania 36. But his fortunes drastically changed in the second half of the year.

After WrestleMania 36, it was reported that Vince McMahon felt Black's character was lacking, so he was repackaged. In retrospect, this change hurt Black much more than it helped him.

Despite the new gimmick, Black hasn't done any thing of note on SmackDown. It is safe to say that the departure of Paul Heyman marked the end of any push Black was receiving.

He recently requested to return to NXT, but WWE management denied Black the opportunity to do so.

After his wife Thea Trinidad (Zelina Vega) was released from WWE, many fans have been doubting the future that Black has with the company.
