In the WWE, there can be few greater feelings than becoming World Champion.
Whilst an accolade like the Intercontinental Championship, or Royal Rumble win is prestigious in their own right, no accomplishment compares to the top prize.
It is a symbol of faith from the company, that they trust you to be the person fans think of, when they think of the best in the WWE during that time.
But not all world champions are created equal, and there have been some who for one reason or another, didn't pan out too well.

And whilst some of these reigns may have been huge, the WWE probably giving these Superstars a permanent spot in the company's rich history.
Here are five WWE Superstars the company probably regret making World Champions and probably would've gone back on, if given the chance.
#5 Diesel

Standing 7-foot tall and with long jet-black hair, Diesel was definitely someone who was going to succeed in the WWE.
Reaching his peak in late 1994, Diesel won the WWE Championship from Bob Backlund, holding the title for just under a year.
A historically long reign to be sure, but one that is mired in controversy, as Big Daddy Cool had great matches against smaller opponents like Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart, but bored fans against fellow big men like King Mabel.
Known for being one of the lowest drawing World Champions of all time, it does make fans wonder what the company were thinking of when they chose Diesel over names like Hart, Michaels, or even The Undertaker.
Not long after losing the title, Diesel would leave the WWF entirely, joining WCW in 1996 as Kevin Nash.
#4 Alberto Del Rio

From the moment Alberto Del Rio appeared on SmackDown in 2010, it was clear the WWE had high hopes.
An accomplished star, Del Rio was quickly pushed, winning the 40-Man Royal Rumble match, the RAW Money in the Bank ladder match, and finally the WWE Championship, all in his rookie year.
Winning a total of four World titles with the company, Del Rio probably won't be winning a fifth, as he has burned bridges with WWE, publicly criticizing the company, and heir-apparent, Triple H.
Being part of a very toxic relationship with Paige in 2016 doesn't help Del Rio's chances either, and whilst the Mexican Aristocrat says he expects he'll return, we can't see it happening.
With too many bad headlines to his name, the WWE wish they could distance themselves more from Del Rio.
#3 Jinder Mahal

We don't yet know how Jinder Mahal's reign will be perceived by future generations of fans, but for now, it seems to have been mixed.
Whilst some applauded WWE for giving Mahal an unpredicted push (especially when many fans complain about the shows being too predictable), many thought that the Modern Day Maharaja's push was down to the WWE's deals with India.
If the latter is true, then the WWE no doubt regret pushing Mahal, as his reign didn't seem to affect the Indian market much, with low ticket sales for the company's tour in the sub-continent whilst he was champion.
Back in the States, ticket sales with Mahal as champion weren't much better, and whilst it'd be unfair to put the blame solely on Jinder, his successor AJ Styles certainly did better as WWE Champion.
#2 The Great Khali

There is a belief that being big will make you a star in WWE, and The Great Khali can certainly attest to that.
Hailing from India, the 7-footer was a true spectacle to behold, with the giant capturing the World Heavyweight Championship in 2007, after the title was vacated by the injured Edge.
Unfortunately, all of Khali's size and monster shrieks could not make up for the fact that he couldn't wrestle.
That doesn't mean he didn't try, lord knows he did, but due to his proportions, Khali's body could simply not function as a wrestler's body should.
Being lambasted by fans, those in attendance and those at home, Khali's sole reign came to an end months later, and the WWE quickly swept any future pushes for the 7-footer firmly under the rug.
#1 Rob Van Dam

Rob Van Dam's WWE Championship victory in 2006 was a sight to behold.
Announcing his Money in the Bank cash-in, RVD faced John Cena for the title, at ECW One Night Stand, certainly with the home-field advantage.
Appearing that Tuesday on ECW on SciFi, things got even better for the new champion, who was christened the ECW World Champion as well.
Things quickly turned south, as Van Dam was arrested for drug possession, and even referenced his accolades to officers, sullying the company's name. Losing the WWE Championship on the July 3rd edition of RAW, Van Dam would lose the ECW Championship the next night, before being suspended for 30 days.
Upon returning, the company never even hinted at a second title reign, and probably regretted making RVD champion in the first place.
