Brock Lesnar won the Universal Championship following the shocking, yet hopefully, temporary exit of Roman Reigns from the company. Also, for some time Lesnar's involvement in WrestleMania 35 was unknown, but it has now been confirmed that he'll work at it. Regardless, Lesnar is suspected to leave WWE following this year's WrestleMania event, which means he could likely drop the title to someone at WM35.
So, today in this feature I will guide you through a list of those superstars who WWE should put the Universal Title on after the departure of "The Beast Incarnate." Moreover, before you get ready to see who'll be those superstars, let me make one thing clear, this list is written from the time scale of WrestleMania 35-36.
Also after reading this feature, for those of you who might think as to why Finn Balor and Lars Sullivan didn't make it to the list, there's a reason for that. For Balor, I think he's going to switch brands and move to SmackDown Live this year when Superstar Shake-up takes place, which rules out even slight possibility of him becoming the Universal Champion once again...
And for Sullivan, I think he isn't going to get the hold of Universal Championship coming straight from NXT and also because of the recent news regarding him and his mental health.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
#1 Seth Rollins
There's a reason why Seth Rollins is mentioned first on this list to win the Universal Championship after Brock Lesnar. As you already know, Rollins is rooted to win this year's men's Royal Rumble match and then go on to face Lesnar in the main event of WrestleMania 35. Undoubtedly, Rollins will walk out of Met-Life stadium with the WWE's flagship show's top prize.
Moreover, the two time WWE Champion already has a history with "The Beast Incarnate", as they were involved in a quarrel for the WWE Championship a few years back. Therefore, it'll be interesting to see how WWE will book a rivalry between two if they want to make Rollins face Lensar at WM 35 to make things look even fresher.
That being said, a match like this is a hard one to pull off at WrestleMania, as fans might reject it if not booked properly. See last year's Lesnar's match with Roman Reigns at WM 34 for reference. Let's wait and see what happens on 27th January and thereafter.
#2 Drew McIntyre
Drew McIntyre is the perfect option for the second place on this list as "The Scottish Psychopath" is also billed to get hold of Universal Championship in 2019. If Rollins wins the red brand's top prize from Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 35, there's no more perfect choice for Rollins' first feud as the Universal Champion than McIntyre.
Why not?
Both men were involved in a feud this last year. And if you try to remember, Rollins along with Dean Ambrose defeated McIntyre and Dolph Ziggler to win the Raw Tag Team Championship. Hence, these past issues between both men can add more fuel in the fire, eventually making their storyline more interesting.
That being said, though, it is impossible for Rollins to lose the Universal Championship on his first title defence against McIntyre, therefore, I think "The Chosen One" will beat Rollins at SummerSlam to claim the Universal Championship.
#3 Braun Strowman
In a list of future World Champions of WWE, not having Braun Strowman on it is an absurd choice. As you already know Strowman has come close to winning the Universal Championship, not only from Lesnar but also from Roman Reigns too. Just see what happened at the Hell in a Cell PPV last year. Strowman's chances to win the red brand's top prize in 2019 are higher than ever.
Moreover, If Drew McIntyre defeats Seth Rollins for the Universal Championship at SummerSlam, Braun Strowman will be his first opponent as the champion since the two men have unfinished business from the past.
Therefore, I think, if WWE is serious about making Strowman Universal Champion, then it has to be on a bigger platform, and Hell in a Cell PPV seems to be a perfect fit following SummerSlam PPV.
Hence, expect these two monsters to collide once again in 2019, only this time it'll be different as it'll involve WWE's flagship show's top prize, the Universal Championship.
#4 Dean Ambrose
Maybe the recent heel turn of Dean Ambrose is the most disappointing character change of 2018 but still, you can't blame "The Lunatic Fringe" for that. If Strowman becomes Universal Champion at the Hell in a Cell PPV, his first opponent to defend his title undoubtedly should be Dean Ambrose, as McIntyre and Rollins will be already out of the title picture, therefore, Ambrose will be the only one left on Raw to get involved into Universal Championship picture.
That being said, if WWE is seriously looking forward to making Ambrose the Universal Champion, then it'll be one smart decision. Also, these two men were involved in a feud in 2015, 2016, and 2018. Hence, it'll be interesting to see which card will WWE pull out this time to make these two men come across each other yet again and get their rivalry started.
With all that in mind, I think Dean Ambrose will probably win the title at the Royal Rumble 2020 PPV, defeating Strowman. Thereafter, he'll go on to defend it at WrestleMania 36, as there is no chance that he'll be losing the WWE's flagship show's top prize prior to The Showcase of the Immortals.
#5 Roman Reigns
Note: This could only happen if Roman Reigns beats Leukemia by 2020.
You are surprised by this entry on our list, aren't you? You already know Roman Reigns' current health situation; he's fighting a battle with leukaemia and hopefully, he'll be back sooner than expected. Now let's discuss, how, where, and when Roman Reigns will become Universal Champion? Let me run you through it.
Neither of us can deny the fact that Roman Reigns will win the Universal Championship upon his return and no matter who it'll be, he's going to take what rightfully belongs to him, as he never lost the title.
Moreover, I think Roman Reigns will be a surprise entrant in the Royal Rumble match 2020 and, he'll win the men's RR match and will go on to face Dean Ambrose at WrestleMania 36. That being said, last year it was planned for Roman Reigns to face his former Shield buddy, Dean Ambrose, in the main event of WrestleMania 35 unfortunately, due to Roman Reigns shocking revelation of fighting Leukaemia, those plans were put on some shelf.
But, I think, as soon as Reigns will make his return, WWE will try to execute those plans at WM 36, maybe even add Seth Rollins into the equation to make things even more interesting. Therefore, at WM 36, we can possibly see Roman Reigns reclaiming the WWE Universal Championship to his name.
