I can’t believe I was upset to see Daniel Bryan win a WWE Championship title match in 2019.
WWE Elimination Chamber was a show that was truly carried by its Chamber matches. The WWE mid-card might need some work but the two Chamber matches delivered some truly entertaining moments.
I don’t know if I have been that invested in someone winning the WWE Championship in a long time. The WWE made me care about a title change and it was a wonderful feeling to have again.
As I am still figuring out why Braun Strowman has no friends, I will try to distract myself and present my list of the top five most surprising moments of WWE Elimination Chamber 2019:

#5 So Many Title Changes
WrestleMania is usually set up as a very good day for the good guys. It is that rare time of year when good finally triumphs over evil. So imagine my real surprise to see so many faces win titles in the second to last pay-per-view before WrestleMania.
It seemed well set-up for a heel team to win the first WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship. As the heel teams got eliminated one by one, it was shocking to see Sasha Banks and Bayley actually win the first ever Championship.
It seemed that they would continue their long string of disappointments on Sunday. But they got their happy moment at Elimination Chamber in their first shot at the title. You add in the fact Finn Balor and The Usos won championships and it seemed we were on course for a happy night for all the good guys. Even if it was quite a few months earlier than expected.
#4 The Usos Win the Tag Titles
The title reign for the “Best in the World” lasted exactly three weeks.
While I don’t understand why The Miz and Shane McMahon have become supposedly the best Smackdown tag team and defeated long time wrestlers like the Bar, they were the tag team champions. I was really dreading but expecting them to beat the five-time tag champions The Usos. I mean Shane McMahon was flying over the ring as usual. So imagine my shock when The Miz lost on a quick roll-up.
I am sure many of us expected the inevitable heel turn by The Miz against Shane McMahon on the Road to WrestleMania. However, it is still nearly two months until the show itself, so you have to be surprised to see the title loss so soon. How can they stretch out The Miz-Shane feud that long? Only time will tell.
#3 Finn Balor Wins the Intercontinental Championship
Finn Balor has finally won his first Intercontinental Championship. It is surprising to think with all the chances he has had over the last few years that this was his first title reign since his one day Universal Championship reign. He only had to be a part of a handicap match to finally win.
The match itself wasn’t as surprising. Bobby Lashley spent a majority of the match attacking Finn Balor. It had a slow and boring pace to their encounter. But as all dumb heels do, Lio Rush had to get cocky and get involved in the match. This allowed Finn to pick up the quick win and end Lashley’s brief title reign. I would have liked Finn’s moment to be bigger but I'm glad he finally has the Intercontinental Championship.
#2 Becky Lynch Attacks Ronda Rousey and Charlotte Flair
I’ll admit I feel pretty sorry for Ruby Riott. They gave her less than a minute in her match with Ronda Rousey. I guess the Riott Squad is truly the jobber group of Women’s Wrestling. 3MB would be really proud of them.
The real surprise was after the “match”. Becky Lynch, who was injured and suspended, showed up yet again. It wasn’t that surprising she assaulted Charlotte with a crutch but she attacked Ronda Rousey as well. It also proved WWE security is quit terrible at their jobs.
They allowed Charlotte to be assaulted for minutes before finally showing up to stop the Ronda being attacked. Becky Lynch becomes more like “Stone Cold” Steve Austin with every attack. For a suspended person, Becky Lynch sure gets away with a lot.
#1 Kofi Kingston Comes Up Short
My first thought after the WWE Championship match ended was I am now ready for Kofi Kingston versus Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania 35.
It truly was a two man show at the WWE Championship Elimination Chamber match. Samoa Joe, Jeff Hardy, AJ Styles and Randy Orton were just supporting players for the final two. The match between Kofi Kingston and Daniel Bryan was an emotional encounter. The crowd was truly invested in Kofi’s repeated comeback attempts to Daniel Bryan’s relentless offense.
The match ended in wonderful fashion with Kofi losing because he missed the high risk move. The crowd was upset but supportive of Kofi’s chase of the title. He looked like a real star in the thirty-five minute match.
I was hoping to see Kofi Kingston have a good showing but it was surprising to see what a real threat he was in the main event. The WWE could run with this momentum if they are smart. Time will tell.
