In hindsight, Muhammad Hassan was one of the most unique, most interesting characters in WWE in 2005.
Real name Mark Copani, Hassan said how he loved America, but despised the vilifying treatment of innocent Arab-Americans after the September 11 terrorist attack.
Whilst this could've opened an interesting discussion about tolerance and unity, the company instead had Hassan become a fully fledged heel, feuding with The Undertaker.
On SmackDown, Hassan's manager Daivari was destroyed by the Deadman, who later found himself attacked by 4 men in balaclavas. A vicious beat down, the segment was already controversial, though real-life events doomed Hassan's career.
The SmackDown aired on July 7, 2005, the same day a terrorist attack rocked London, and WWE quickly got worried about their image. Killing off the Hassan character weeks later at the Great American Bash, his career remains a huge what-if.
