#2. The 2-out-of-3 Falls Era
The middle months of 2019 were a bit of a disaster for WWE. Ratings were consistently at an all-time low and the product felt stale, especially with the Wildcard Rule.
But one of the weirdest things to happen during that period was personally brought upon by Vince McMahon himself. He suddenly believed that matches should not happen during commercial breaks, leading to a month of ridiculousness.
Each week, writers were tasked with coming up with reasons for various halts and resets whenever RAW or SmackDown would go to commercial. This saw a mass influx of 2-out-of-3 Falls Matches where each fall would last a segment, as a way to work around the commercials.
Fortunately, McMahon eventually lifted the ban on wrestling during commercials and the show improved for it. The strange pauses caused a massive disconnect with live audiences and the stipulation became more and more convoluted. It made zero sense for a random 6-man Tag Team Match to be 2-out-of-3 falls.
