While Reginald has become known by this name as Carmella's Sommelier on WWE TV, he was actually recruited by the company as part of NXT. Reginald's real name is Sidney Bateman, and he was signed to a WWE developmental contract back in January 2020.
Bateman was signed to WWE alongside Mercedes Martinez, Jake Atlas, Anthony Francis, Emily Andzulis, and Zechariah Smith. Interestingly, he is the first star out of the six to wrestle on the main roster.
Despite having no background in the wrestling business, Bateman was handed the name Akeem Young while in NXT and was sent to the Performance Center to learn the ropes.
Even though Bateman didn't wrestle a match for WWE while in NXT, he was still called up to the main roster when Carmella changed her gimmick and required a new sidekick.
It's impressive that the star has only been part of the business for a year, and he has already been promoted from NXT and has made his in-ring debut on SmackDown.
