#1 RETRIBUTION end the WWE Championship match in a no-contest to close SummerSlam
With the introduction of RETRIBUTION to RAW and SmackDown, we have seen WWE work on many angles where the faction has attacked Superstars and officials both in the ring and backstage. RETRIBUTION will look to leave a mark at SummerSlam, and there are many ways they can end up giving fans something unexpected during the event.
The faction has already forced matches to end in no-contests, with the first attempt at a match between Big E and John Morrison on SmackDown being the most recent example.
Tom Colohue of Sportskeeda noted that a match at SummerSlam could fall victim to the faction’s interference during his chat before the beginning of RAW this week:
“Don't be surprised if this whole thing is held up or potentially interrupted by Retribution in the main event of SummerSlam in order to get a draw rematch at Payback. I don't know why they've got a PPV the week after but they're having it as an overflow PPV and they will need big draw rematches. A week is not long enough to build a new feud. They will need a lot of rematches.”
Orton and McIntyre are two of the biggest WWE Superstars in the current roster, and attacking them would help RETRIBUTION leave a huge mark on WWE. McIntyre has already teased taking out RETRIBUTION, and that could lead to the group attacking him at the event.
This could result in a no-contest during the match between Orton and McIntyre for the WWE Championship, and WWE will get a reason to book a match at WWE Payback which will take place just a week after SummerSlam.
