5 things to expect from the WWE tag team division in 2016

The WWE tag team division is on a roll

One of the major drawbacks on the part of WWE in recent times has been their not-so-interesting tag team division. The Hardey Boyz, The Dudley Boyz and the charismatic duo of Edge and Christian have set the par so above that anything in recent times seems boring. But that may not be the case anymore.

The tag team division is beginning to be on the rise again thanks largely to The New Day. Now along with a fresh influx of NXT talent, the future of the division seems bright, with a lot of intriguing potentials moving forward. This could mean the long awaited revival of the tag team division.

So, let's take a look now at 5 things to expect in the tag team division in 2016.

5. Larger focus

The old school Vaudevillains made their debut on Smackdown

For the past few months, The New Day have taken over the tag team division and become a headline cornerstone of the entire WWE. Their entertaining antics and superior in-ring prowess, has not only catapulted themselves to the forefront of WWE, but in turn has also brought focus back to the tag team division. Therefore it’s expected that we will see this trend continue.

Furthermore, the post-mania edition of Raw saw the main roster debut of two new talented tag teams from NXT, Enzo & Cass who appeared to confront the Dudley Boyz, and a video package announcing that the Vaudevillains will be making there in-ring main roster debut on Smackdown. Not only that, but it was also revealed that Primo and Epico have been repackaged again and will be ditching their Los Matadores gimmick.

This new influx of fresh talented teams, along with the current experienced talent, will only lead to the WWE placing even more focus on the tag division. This should also hopefully lead them to book multiple tag team feuds at the same time, instead of just the tag team title hunt.

4. Incredible matches

Expect to see even more incredible tag matches in the near future

As aforementioned, there is a fresh wave of new teams along with many pre-existing ones, all of whom are extremely talented in the ring. Many of these teams have never faced each other before, so therefore we can look forward to expect a plethora of new exciting match up combinations. We have the new NXT teams Enzo & Cass and The Vaudevillains who are both talented and anybody they face on the main roster will be a new match up.

Furthermore, Los Matadores are being repackaged which will inject a fresh take on any teams they face again upon there return. Also we have the ongoing formation of R Truth and Goldust (Golden Truth), which will create a new talented veteran team for younger stars to have solid bouts against.

Already we have been teased with a Enzo & Cass vs Dudley Boyz match which is sure to be extremely entertaining and will most likely occur at the upcoming Payback PPV. So in the near future we can expect to see a number of fresh intriguing match-ups that we are yet to see.

3. Balor Club

The Balor (or Bullet) Club formation in WWE has been teased for months now

A few weeks before the 2016 Royal Rumble, huge news broke of four NJPW talents signing to WWE. Former bullet club leader AJ Styles, who made his debut in the rumble, Shinsuke Nakamura, who made his debut at NXT Takeover: Dallas and former bullet club members Doc Gallows and Karl Anderson who have yet to make a debut in WWE were those four talents.

Since the rumors of the signing, there have been numerous teases and rumors of some sort of new bullet club formation in the WWE, possibly under the title ‘Balor Club’ with Finn Balor as the leader. For those that don’t know, Finn Balor was the original leader of the Bullet Club in NJPW. Many thought that Finn along side Gallows & Anderson would make an appearance at Wrestlemania or maybe even the Raw after, but they didn’t.

Speculation continues to grow and it should only be a matter of time now before they finally make a debut. With AJ Styles upcoming title match against Reigns, is possible the Balor Club debuts during the match, to either cost AJ the bout or help him win the title. Regardless of when they make their debut, they are sure to shake up the tag team division and the entire WWE for that matter.

As a little side note, Doc Gallows has actually been in WWE before, under two different characters that you might remember, first as Fetus and then later on as Luke Gallows.

2. New Day heel turn

New Day to turn heel again?

The New Day are without a doubt, one of the hottest acts in the entire company at the moment. Just recently, WWE capitalized on their popularity, and officially turned the group face in time for Wrestlemania 32. The crowd is now behind the New Day more than ever before as they just keep continuing to climb the ladder in WWE, putting on amazing matches.

They have also become one of the top merchandise sellers for WWE. So why would WWE want to turn them back heel? Because eventually the New Day will begin to grow stale as faces, and they will need to turn back heel. Granted this turn likely won’t happen for some time, possibly not until rather late in 2016.

Another major reason why they may need to turn heel, is because there is an upcoming face team that will likely soon be challenging for the tag titles, and WWE will probably want to have a traditional face vs heel dynamic. Not to mention WWE could use some more top heel tag teams.

However, if WWE is intent on keeping New Day face they could just go with a face vs face feud. It will be intriguing to see int which direction WWE chooses to use The New Day.

1. Enzo & Cass tag team title reign

The realest guys are in the room now!

Enzo & Cass were two of the most popular guys on the NXT roster and fans have been hoping for their main roster call up for some time now. So the fans were understandingly ecstatic when Enzo & Cass marched out on post-mania Raw and gave the Dudley Boyz a verbal beatdown.

The two have great chemistry together and will no doubt have a very bright future in the WWE. Based off their main roster debut, it appears there first feud will be with the Dudley Boyz. The match will likely happen at Payback and one would assume Enzo & Cass should pick up the victory.

The feud may continue for a while before Enzo & Cass move on to facing some other talent. But based on their popularity and talent, it shouldn’t be long before they are competing for the tag team titles. A Summerslam bout between The New Day and Enzo & Cass for the titles would be phenomenal.

It would also be a great moment to end The New Day’s historic championship reign by putting over the newcomers. Enzo & Cass could then go on to have a lengthy title run of their own, starting off with a epic feud with the New Day.

Regardless of what exactly transpires in the near future, the WWE tag team division is looking very bright, and hopefully it will continue to flourish and grow in 2016.
