#2 Drew Gulak’s upset victory
Intercontinental Championship contenders AJ Styles and Daniel Bryan met in the ring for a face to face talk on SmackDown this week, with Renee Young moderating the segment. She asked the usual questions before Styles revealed that he believed the only reason Bryan is in Sheamus’ place for the finals is due to the interference by Jeff Hardy on last week's SmackDown.
He called Bryan noble, yet stupid, for what he did last week as he opted to fight for a spot in the finals rather than just accepting it as Styles did.
Bryan spoke about how he saw the Intercontinental Championship as a big title and how he would defend it every week on SmackDown if he managed to win it. After a few more hot words, Styles surprised everyone by giving Bryan’s mentor Drew Gulak a match against himself.
The former Cruiserweight Champion came out to the ring and went after The Phenomenal One almost immediately. Gulak showed great skill in the fight against the former WWE Champion and kept him down with technical maneuvers.
Styles set up to The Styles Clash, but Gulak managed to counter and cover him to pick up a huge victory just days before Styles’ big Intercontinental Championship Tournament finals match.
Is this the push Drew Gulak needed on SmackDown?
While we have seen Gulak lose to most of Bryan’s opponents, it was great to see him pick up a victory over the biggest fish on SmackDown. While this could indicate that Styles will come back stronger against Bryan and possibly win the title, Gulak was the man who needed the right push and got it against the perfect heel.
