The Fiend vs Seth Rollins was the most anticipated Universal Championship match-up in its 3-year history. There was never a match with two superstars as loved as these two and given the Hell in a Cell stipulation, it only added to the aura and the excitement.

They had quite an incredible match that had really good psychology and great storytelling. It was all great. The countless number of curb stomps, the chair shot to the head, the kendo stick shot, the ladder shot, the toolbox shot and even the sledgehammer shot.

But that was where it ended, literally. In what turned out to be a rather bizarre finish, the referee rang the bell for a disqualification... in a no disqualification match. Sure, the referee telling Rollins not to lose it and use the sledgehammer was all well and good, but why would he ring the bell for a DQ?

We get that WWE wanted to protect both superstars while keeping the title on Rollins, but what was the point of building The Fiend up so well if they didn't know a way around it?

The real reason behind the finish was exactly that. They didn't know a better way to protect both superstars and probably felt this was appropriate. That's the second year in a row now that we've had a dusty Hell in a Cell finish.
