5 Things you didn't know about Donald Trump's relationship with WWE and the McMahons

Donald Trump and the McMahons are old friends and business partners

1: The McMahon’s donated to the Trump Foundation

WWE paid Trump for some of his appearance by indirectly paying his charity

The Trump Foundation, by most accounts, isn’t a real charity. The Trump Foundation has also come under scrutiny after it was revealed earlier this year that Trump only put money into his charity until 2007, that too in small amounts, after which he stopped funding it completely.

Following this, the charity basically started asking for donations which it then used to make donations. Tax records from this period also show that two of these donors were Vince and Linda McMahon who gave big donations to Trump’s charity in 2007 and 2009.

These were basically payments to Trump for his part in his two biggest WWE storylines – 2007’s Battle of the Billionaires and 2009’s storyline regarding Trump ‘buying’ Raw – made through his charity. Why was the money funneled through his charity? Some are saying tax-evasion.

According to the Washington Post, the single biggest donation The Trump Foundation received from the McMahon’s was in 2007 which amounted to $4 million.
