Mickie James’ return to WWE was perhaps the biggest topic coming out of Thursday night’s NXT tapings. But another big topic was the debut of Thea Trinidad. The NXT Women’s Division is rebuilding and got the extra boost it needed since Ember Moon debuted at NXT Takeover Brooklyn.
Trinidad is one of the latest rumoured to be signed to the developmental brand. While it has not been confirmed, she is definitely on WWE’s watch list. Trinidad has been on the scene for a number of years now. Known as Rosita during her time with TNA, Trinidad now is on the verge to start her WWE career.
The match at last Thursday’s taping was just the start for her. There is a possibility that we will see more of her in the future. So who is Thea Trinidad? I’ll give you the low down right now.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
#1 Rosita
Trinidad was with TNA for two years as Rosita. She was a part of the stable Mexican America and teamed with fellow member Sarita often. The two held the TNA Knockouts Tag Team Championships once.
During their reign, the two-storyline “cousins” feuded with The Beautiful People, and then would eventually lose the Championships to Ms. Tessmacher and Tara.
Mexican America soon disbanded and it phased out Trinidad’s time in TNA. Her contract expired and she did not re-sign with the company. She has been in the Independent scene since then under the name Divina Fly. She took on this name before her time in TNA as well.
#2 September 11th
This day is a huge part of Trinidad – her father died as a result of the attacks in New York City. He was in the North Tower of the World Trade Center when the buildings collapsed.
Trinidad was featured on the Children of 9/11 special that aired five years ago. During the special, Trinidad spoke of her father and cited that wrestling was what bonded them in her younger years. When she was old enough, Trinidad pursued wrestling as a way to honour her father.
Trinidad also had worked as a counsellor at a camp that was specifically for children who lost parents on 9/11.
#3 Rosebud
Trinidad has most certainly been paying her dues on the scene. However, this is not her first run-in with WWE. Like Braun Strowman, Trinidad was part of the Rosebuds with Adam Rose. Trinidad was occasionally used to be part of the group, which danced and partied with Rose as he made his entrance to the ring.
After the Rosebuds, she was an extra in a backstage segment with Tyler Breeze at NXT Fatal 4 Way. But even before her time hanging out with the Rosebuds, Trinidad received a tryout with WWE in 2013. If anything else, she has been persistent on getting into WWE.
#4 The Greatest Man
Trinidad is currently in a relationship with fellow NXT star Austin Aries. The two met during their time in TNA. Trinidad and Aries have been together for four years and share an apartment together. At one point it was said that the two were engaged, however, Trinidad took to Twitter to debunk the statement and confirmed it was just a promise ring.
Trinidad has often posted pictures and videos on social media of them together. Trinidad has also managed Aries during his time in Ring of Honor. Should she end up in NXT officially, the two could possibly cross paths in storylines!
#5 Famous ties
Trinidad is a cousin of popular independent wrestler Amazing Red. She has also been trained by the likes of TJ Perkins amongst others. Prior to her TNA debut, she was discovered by ECW legend Tommy Dreamer. Trinidad would go on to work House of Hardcore on several occasions.
Trinidad may have famous ties, but she made the most of her opportunities. She’s paid her dues and has worked hard to get to where she is. Perhaps when she is signed, she would be a great addition to the NXT roster. The Women’s Division is in the process of rebuilding, and Trinidad would be a great choice to take the division to the next level.
