The main event of the show featured a WrestleMania 15 rematch between The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin for the WWE Championship. Austin had won his third Royal Rumble match earlier in the year to bag an opportunity for the top prize.

Austin went on to hit The Rock 16 times with a chair, and then pinned him to become the new WWE Champion. The final image of the show was of a newly turned heel Austin celebrating with McMahon by sharing beers with him, which is considered as one of the most iconic images in WWE history.
