In the lead-up to the match, both Reigns and Strowman had a contract signing on Monday Night RAW, that was hosted by then RAW General Manager, Mick Foley. The segment started-off with The Monster Among Men disrespecting Foley and as the latter stood up for himself, Roman Reigns made his way out to the ring and declared war on his arch-rival.

The two men once again went at it on RAW and at one point, it did seem that Reigns would get the upper hand over Strowman. That was the case until the latter crashed The Big Dog into the ring post. The brawl was quickly taken in-between the WWE Universe and this time, Reigns did gain the upper hand and eventually drove Strowman through the barricade, courtesy of a brutal spear.
But, being the monster he is, Braun Strowman got back-up on his feet, much to Roman Reigns' disbelief. The former pushed The Big Dog into the turnbuckle with such force that the top rope eventually came-off. Talk about sheer power!
