Randy Orton kicked off a feud with Vince McMahon and his family in early 2009. On the January 19, 2009 episode of RAW, he confronted both Vince and Stephanie McMahon in the ring. The Viper berated the latter and it didn't sit well with the WWE Chairman.
He instructed Orton to apologize if he didn't want to be terminated. Before Vince McMahon could fire him for not apologizing, Randy Orton slapped him hard, to a loud gasp from fans in attendance. He then hit a devastating Punt on McMahon and the boss was carried away on a stretcher.

Orton feuded with Vince McMahon, Triple H, and the entire McMahon family on the road to WrestleMania 25. This led to a WWE title match between him and The Game in the main event of The Show of Shows. In a heartfelt moment, Vince and Shane McMahon could be seen wishing good luck to Triple H before his match.
He exacted revenge on Orton for what he put the McMahon family through for the weeks before. When WrestleMania went off the air, he stood tall with the WWE title in his hands.
