The road to WrestleMania 17 saw Vince McMahon kicking off a romantic angle with Trish Stratus, much to the dismay of his wife Linda.
The WWE Chairman had demanded a divorce from his wife, which led to her breakdown. She spent some time in an institution and McMahon grew close to Stratus during the absence. As WrestleMania loomed closer, Vince McMahon made his real intentions clear and told Trish Stratus that she was a mere toy to him. He added that he had grown tired of playing with her.

The angle finally came to an end at WrestleMania 17 where the Chairman took on his son Shane McMahon. At one point during the match, Stratus slapped Vince McMahon at ringside and turned babyface to a huge pop from the 68,000 fans present in the stadium.
Stephanie McMahon, who was on her father's side at the time, slapped Trish Stratus immediately after. This led to a catfight that garnered a big pop as well.
In the end, Shane McMahon emerged victorious over his father. Vince would have the last laugh though, as he joined forces with Stone Cold at the end of the show and the duo celebrated as WrestleMania went off the air.

He would book Roman Reigns to re-form The Bloodline with The Usos and Sami Zayn upon his comeback. The angle would see The Tribal Chief-led group go head-to-head with The Rock, Solo Sikoa, Tama Tonga, and Jacob Fatu in a blockbuster family feud.
