Vince McMahon was well aware that The Rock wasn't in a good mood after Judgment Day 2000. He lost the WWE title to Triple H in an Iron Man match at the event. The match was marred by interference from DX. In the end, The Undertaker made his long-awaited return and attacked the faction and McMahon to a loud ovation.
The Phenom didn't spare Triple H either and the attack caught the eye of special referee Shawn Michaels. The latter awarded the fall to The Game, thus giving him the WWE title.

On the May 25, 2000 episode of SmackDown, Vince McMahon told The Rock that he was giving him the night off. The Great One seemed unimpressed at first, but then entered his limo in agreement. As McMahon was about to leave the spot, The Rock stated that he wanted to tell him something.
As the WWE Chairman came closer, he delivered a loud slap to him, leaving him screaming in disbelief. As an irate Vince McMahon hurled profanities at The Brahma Bull, he left the building in his limo.

He would book Roman Reigns to re-form The Bloodline with The Usos and Sami Zayn upon his comeback. The angle would see The Tribal Chief-led group go head-to-head with The Rock, Solo Sikoa, Tama Tonga, and Jacob Fatu in a blockbuster family feud.
