#4. Dominic's custody battle

WWE really went all out with this storyline between Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio.
WWE really went all out with this storyline between Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio.

While adults that watched WWE back in 2004 probably had a pretty good idea that Rey Mysterio wasn't really in danger of losing his son, Dominic to Eddie Guerrero, younger fans were enthralled in the ongoing custody battle. In fact, from the moment Guerrero threatened to reveal Mysterio's secret, to him shouting, "I'm your papi!", it was a thrill ride for WWE fans.

Not only was this due to the fact that a storyline like this was so personal and controversial, but also due to just how real it felt. Of course that was all just amazing storytelling on Mysterio, Guerrero and Dominik's part, but everyone's heart had to hurt when little Dominic asked Rey if he was really his dad.

Again, if you were older and in the know about what WWE was doing, you probably didn't glance twice at this storyline. It was a completely different story for younger fans that had no idea what was going on. Heck, kids probably went to school talking about a custody battle they was set to be resolved in a PPV pro wrestling match. Which is a thing that totally happens in real life.

In the end, it was just good storytelling and done in a way that made you question reality - if you were in the right age group. Either that, or you were able to suspend your disbelief long enough to think that the company would air this kind of content if it was real.
