Randy Orton and Ric Flair's history in WWE is extensive. The Nature Boy was a mentor to The Viper during his early days as a rookie in Evolution, alongside future Hall of Famers Triple H and Batista.
Flair once again began mentoring Orton during the summer of 2020 on RAW. The Nature Boy assisted Randy Orton to victory over Christian and Kevin Owens. This was all in the build up to Randy Orton challenging Drew McIntyre for the WWE Championship at SummerSlam.
However, Orton quickly began to grow tired of Ric Flair's assistance. The Viper even felt Flair was attempting to steal his spotlight. It all came to a head on RAW when Orton had some harsh words for his former mentor.
The Nature Boy, albeit hurt by Orton's scathing words, reaffirmed his respect for The Viper. Flair revealed that he hoped Randy Orton would be the one to surpass his record of 16 World Heavyweight Championships, and not John Cena.
The former Evolution team-mates embraced in a hug in the middle of the ring before The Apex Predator struck a vicious low blow on Ric Flair. This was then followed by a vicious punt kick to the skull of his fallen mentor.
