In late 2004, Kurt Angle confronted the rookies of Tough Enough Season 4 on an episode of WWE SmackDown and laid down a challenge for them. The squat thrust challenge saw Chris Nawrocki winning in the end and earning a shoot fight with Angle. The former WWE Champion broke his ribs in the match, following which Daniel Puder came out to accept the challenge.
Puder was taken down by Angle, but he locked the Olympic gold medalist in a legit Kimura Lock in the process. Realizing that Angle's arm could be broken at any moment, the official quickly made the three count. Angle and Puder got up and the former talked to him off-mic. It was clear that Angle was angry at Puder for trying to break his arm, and the Tough Enough winner was later punished for the same by WWE at the Royal Rumble PPV. Puder was brutally beaten by Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, and Hardcore Holly during the Royal Rumble match, and he never wrestled on the main roster again.

Given the opportunity to script WWE’s next big storyline, Abhilash would treat fans to the second installment of The Bloodline Civil War. He would book Roman Reigns to re-form The Bloodline with The Usos and Sami Zayn upon his comeback. The angle would see The Tribal Chief-led group go head-to-head with The Rock, Solo Sikoa, Tama Tonga, and Jacob Fatu in a blockbuster family feud.
