At the first-ever WWE SummerSlam PPV in August 1988, the legend of the Ultimate Warrior was born. The longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion, The Honky Tonk Man, was scheduled to face Brutus 'the Barber' Beefcake. Unfortunately, before the event, the challenger was brutally attacked by 'Outlaw' Ron Bass and could not compete.

This set up the opportunity for a new contender to face the WWE Intercontinental Champion. The Honky Tonk Man was so confident in his abilities that he didn't want to know who he was going to face before the matchup.

After a brief pause, the frenetic theme song of The Ultimate Warrior hit, and he came bursting through the curtain and sprinted towards the ring. Warrior went for the attack as soon as the bell rang.

He powerslammed The Honky Tonk Man and proceeded to hit the Champion with a flying tackle and a clothesline. Warrior finished him off with his signature Running splash and the match was over in just under 40 seconds.
