5 Titles the WWE should add

Neville’s high-flying style meshes perfectly with traditional lighter weight classes.

The Million Dollar Man certainly knew the value of a new belt.Whenever people discuss ways to improve WWE programming, the idea of adding more championships always comes up. There are a variety of ways to do this, but simply adding more belts likely won’t do the trick. So the key would be to add titles with specific purposes that wouldn’t be in direct comparison to existing belts. This way, people competing for the new belts wouldn’t automatically be lesser champions or take away from the established belts. Here are five titles that would fit the bill.

#1 Cruiserweight title

New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE

A cruiserweight or light heavyweight title wouldn’t be a new idea by any means.

Both WWE and WCW had something for the smaller superstars in the past years, but that concept fell by the wayside. These days, the main challenge would be that there isn’t as much of a range of size between competitors now, which would seem to make the field very small, no pun intended.

That said, the WWE could find a way to make this title matter. If worked properly, a Cruiserweight title match between Daniel Bryan and Dolph Ziggler could headline a pay-per-view if need be, and that would cut down on thrown-together feuds for the existing belts.

#2 Divas tag titles

Charlotte and Becky Lynch would be in the mix for any Divas tag championship.

Like the Cruiserweight title, a Divas tag championship is frequently part of the discussion of adding titles, and it has merit. Especially since most of the Divas division is currently divided into teams or factions, the framework is already there.

This would also allow some of the lesser-talented Divas that either don’t get airtime or only work as valets to get in on the action, and it would increase the number of meaningful women’s matches. The major step in any women’s revolution is to get rid of the Divas name, but tag titles would move the division in the right direction.

#3 Hardcore title

Dean Ambrose and most of the Wyatt family would be ideal for Hardcore competition.

WWE obviously had a Hardcore title before, but as the programming went more PG, the championship went away.

But what didn’t go away was hardcore programming. Various street fight concepts pop up from time to time, even on Christmas-themed shows, and there are at least three pay-per-views with hardcore themes – Extreme Rules, Hell in a Cell and TLC.

If the matches are happening anyway, why not have a title for them? And with guys like Dean Ambrose, Roman Reigns, the Dudleys, the Wyatt family and Kane all having put on solid hardcore matches in the past, the talent is clearly there.

#4 Trios title

Sheamus, King Barrett and Rusev have recently teamed up as the European Ultras.

The way WWE programming has gone recently, it’s kind of surprising that Trios belts aren’t already in existence.

There are four groups currently working with three or more members – Wyatts, New Day, Cosmic Wasteland and the European Ultras – and superstars are frequently crammed together for six-man tag matches on Raw or Smackdown.

If these matches had an official goal, they might not seem so random. In addition to having more permanent teams vying for the Trios title, superstars could join forces for more spontaneous teams in an effort to nab the new belts.

#5 Rookie title

Tyler Breeze was the most recent addition to main roster competition from NXT.

This option has perhaps the most potential for adding structure to the WWE title situation.

As it is, there’s no real process for guys to go from NXT competition to a main roster title picture. Some guys like Kevin Owens get seemingly fast-tracked to feuds for major titles while others, like Neville, seemingly lack direction despite great performances.

A Rookie title could change that. The writers could make it where guys had to win the Rookie title before they could pursue another championship, and NXT talent could come up for challenges. That would be a more logical way to break guys in on the main roster and also allow for creative solutions when the Rookie champ wins another belt.
