After a lackluster run in NXT, Elias debuted on RAW in April 2017.

Elias surprised a lot of people as he heavily impressed with his mic skills (especially his "musical performances") and in-ring ability.
Unfortunately for Elias, he could not find any major footing or feud to help establish him as a solid competitor and drifted from one underwhelming feud to another for the major part of his main roster career.
The Drifter now finds himself entangled in a program with The Architect and current IC Champion- Seth Rollins, who he will be facing at MITB.
It is being rumored that Seth Rollins is next in line for a shot at the Universal Championship, so it only makes sense for Rollins to drop the IC Championship to an up and comer like Elias who would be greatly benefitted by becoming the Intercontinental Champion.
