5 UFC fighters Brock Lesnar can take to Suplex City

Akash C
Who wants to take a trip to Suplex City?

With Brock Lesnar’s return to the WWE, he started off with a new gimmick called “Suplex City”, and it’s easy to see why it became popular. Lesnar is a genetic freak and there’s no greater way for him to establish dominance over his opponents than suplexing the holy hell out of them.

On a parallel track, upon his return to MMA – despite the doping allegations, Lesnar put in a pretty convincing shift against Mark Hunt in the UFC. Sure, he didn’t exactly take the New Zealander to Suplex City, but he did get a unanimous decision victory which was eventually overturned to a no-contest.

Now, if Lesnar did ever step back into the octagon, which MMA fighters could he dominate and suplex like he does in the WWE ring whenever he makes an appearance? Well, here’s 5 fighters that we think The Beast Incarnate can surely dominate:

#5 Ed Herman

Expect Herman to look a lot worse if he went up against Lesnar (pic credits: MMAHeat)

Ed Herman is one of your run of the mill UFC fighters. The light heavyweight has a UFC record of 10-9-1 and for the most part, he is a competent fighter who usually puts on a good showing.

The problem if Short Fuse ever went up against Brock Lesnar, is that he would be at a severe disadvantage due to his weakness against grapplers and submission experts – which is exactly what The Beast is.

Lesnar has the advantage in grappling, wrestling, submissions, size, speed, and strength. If this match up ever happened, prepare to see poor old Ed Herman taken down to Suplex City on multiple occasions.

#4 Roy Nelson

Does this really look like someone who can take on Brock?

Roy Nelson is a big man. As someone who has always been just below of the elite level of UFC fighters, the heavyweight is considered as a good matchup for most mid-carders today.

Nelson, though, has expressed an interest in fighting Lesnar, especially just before The Beast’s fight against Mark Hunt.

Now if Big Country did get his request granted and Dana White decided to make Lesnar vs Nelson happen, it would be a bad day for Nelson. Sure, a lot of people will argue that his size makes it difficult for Lesnar to actually suplex him, but these people seem to have forgotten just how powerful Lesnar is.

Brock is one of the strongest men to enter the UFC and as evidenced by his time in the WWE, he has no issues in delivering suplexes to someone the size of the Big Show. Somehow doubt Big Country will be much of a problem after that.

#3 Travis Browne

Doubt that impressive physique is gonna help Browne against Lesnar

Now we come to Mr. Travis Browne. The #10 ranked heavyweight in the UFC is perhaps better known as Ronda Rousey’s boyfriend, but to be fair to the guy, Browne isn’t a terrible fighter. In fact, he’s a pretty decent one as is evidenced by his ranking.

The problem for Browne comes from his coaching staff. Employing the same controversial coach as his girlfriend – Edmond Tarverdyan – Browne’s approach to fights hasn’t been on point.

Against someone with the physical attributes of Brock Lesnar, that is fight suicide. If this fight happens with Browne under Edmond’s tutelage, fully expect to see him get rag dolled around the ring by Lesnar’s superior wrestling style.

#2 Frank Mir

Repeat performance?

Frank Mir is probably the fighter Brock Lesnar knows best on this list, having defeated Mir during his earlier run with the UFC. The thing about Mir is that his style is actually based on wrestling and grappling. So, why is he on this list exactly?

Well, it’s firstly because Mir’s numbers when it comes to takedowns and takedown defence make for atrocious reading. His statistics are amongst the worst in heavyweights and this is somehow supposed to be his speciality.

Secondly, it’s the run he’s been on. Mir has lost 6 out of his last 8 fights, including the last two – one of which was a loss to Mark Hunt. There is no way someone like this is going to be able to hang with someone like Brock.

These reasons coupled with the fact that Lesnar has already taken Frank Mir down once before means that there’s only one outcome in this fight: A trip down to Suplex City.

#1 Anthony Johnson

Rumble’s lack of skill in wrestling will be his downfall

Anthony Johnson is legitimately one of the scariest people on the UFC roster. The #1 ranked light heavyweight contender in the world has a knockout punch that has laid out the very best in the business. You get hit by that and it’s lights out.

The only problem Rumble has, though, is his weakness against grapplers and submission specialists.

Almost all of his losses have come via submissions and if his opponents can stay away from that monstrous right hand, it’s possible to take down the big guy, and that’s why this is a good matchup for Brock Lesnar.

With his superior wrestling and grappling, if Lesnar is able to keep away from Rumble’s fist, he will definitely take Johnson all the way to Suplex City and back.
