Dolph Ziggler is returning next week on Smackdown Live, and we could not be less excited about his return. Ziggler has turned into a bit of a joke in recent times, and the former two-time World Champion deserves much better.
Dolph Ziggler's heel turn in January last year was expected to be a fresh start for the then boring babyface, but he has simply turned into a boring heel. Ziggler's in-ring work is one of the best in WWE currently, but he has a tendency to make people pretty disinterested in his career.
With an imminent return on the cards, could WWE be looking to rejuvenate the Showoff? If yes, then they could possibly be doing one of these five possibilities!
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
#5 A Manager Once Again?
Dolph Ziggler has found amazing success when being paired with a woman manager before. His relationship with Vickie Guerrero is a great highlight of his career, and he achieved tremendous success during that run.
A World Championship run, a Money in the Bank win, and positioning as a top heel in the company at that time made Ziggler a force to reckon with. The Showoff has never reached to those levels again in his career.
Could Ziggler be paired up with some female superstar? A relationship in the mold of Andrade Almas and Zelina Vega could work well for Dolph!
#4 A return to babyface role
Dolph Ziggler has a tendency, as mentioned earlier, to become stagnant in his character. He has never really managed to stay over for long periods of time, even his push in 2011 ended with him suffering an unfortunate injury.
Ziggler stayed a face for a long time, before finally turning heel in early 2017. His heel turn at the time looked promising, as segments with Jerry Lawler and some good promos looked promising. However, Ziggler being paired up in irrelevant feuds led to a blockbuster failure of the much-hyped heel turn.
Ziggler was one of the best babyfaces on the roster during a tremendous time for him in 2014. He has all the tools to play a brilliant underdog babyface.
#3 Two is better than one, right?
Dolph Ziggler has surprisingly never tagged with other superstars in his long career. His whole career after the Spirit Squad venture has seen him feature in singles action, which has been a hit and miss a lot of time.
We've seen in past the redemption of wrestlers for whom the creative doesn't have proper storylines. Pairing such superstars together has worked wonders more often than not. Breezango and the Bar are perfect examples in the current roster.
Ziggler being paired up with another superstar could be a fresh dynamic for the Showoff, and could also help rejuvenate his career.
#2 A much-needed gimmick change?
If you've followed WWE for the better part of this decade, you will definitely know that Ziggler has not had a change in character ever since 2009. He has consistently been an HBK-reboot and has failed to make merry with his current character.
Ziggler's gimmick is in a dire need of change, and WWE should try to give Ziggler a relevant gimmick. He has labored through a tired gimmick for years now, and a character change could bring some positive results for both the superstar and the company!
#1 NXT
Dolph Ziggler has consistently called himself the best performer in the ring, and his in-ring work is actually one of the best in the company. Ziggler was part of an era where telling a proper story in the ring were actually paid attention to. However, wrestling skills without charisma have never been that good, right?
However, WWE has a place where proper storytelling in the ring is given utmost priority, NXT. Dolph Ziggler will tear the house down in NXT, and could reinvent his self in the process. Producing a show for an audience of thousands compared to a show for 300 odd hardcore wrestling fans is massively different, and WWE should try to take advantage of this fact.
