#1 John Cena wrestling Rob Van Dam at ECW One Night Stand in 2006
One of the wildest wrestling reactions you will ever see, happened in 2006 at the ECW One Night Stand pay-per-view. John Cena defended the WWE Championship against Rob Van Dam at the Hammerstein Ballroom.
ECW has always been about being anti-establishment, meaning the fans were all anti-WWE. So when you have WWE's poster boy John Cena about to enter a match at ECW, you want to see how the crowd is going to react. Echoes of boos rang around as his entrance music hit the ECW environment.
Fans drowned out a popular wrestler with 'She's a racist' chants recently
Even before the match started, John Cena was feeling the wrath of the ECW fans. He threw his shirt into the crowd, only for the ECW fans to throw it back. Cena tried this several times, with all the attempts being unsuccessful. After that, a toilet roll was thrown into the ring, and this was followed by anti-Cena chants all the way through the match. There was even an 'If Cena wins we riot' sign in the crowd.
Thankfully, there was no riot as John Cena lost the WWE Championship to Rob Van Dam thanks to interference from Edge. Paul Heyman counted 1-2-3 as the referee was knocked out. The ECW fans went ballistic and celebrated wildly, with RVD even going into the ECW fans at one point to celebrate. It was by far the wildest crowd reaction to a wrestling match in pro-wrestling history, from start to finish.
