The WWE draft is in the books now and we are officially into the brand split era. Performing such a big move did come with its risks and WWE deserves credit for pulling off the whole thing but the draft did come with some moments worth forgetting. Now, as they say, things cannot be perfect all the time so it’s hard to blame WWE for the same.
However, this doesn’t stop us from digging into such mistakes and analyzing them. So in this list, we are going to take a look at those moments from the WWE draft that we wished didn’t happen.
Kalisto on SmackDown
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
The Lucha Dragons were split up during the draft and it was not a big deal. But Kalisto ending up in SmackDown was something that no one saw coming. Why? Because of the Cruiserweight division. When Stephanie McMahon announced the Cruiserweight division on the last episode of Monday Night Raw, everyone saw Kalisto as a major player in the division.
He was perfect for the same with his high flying and fast paced style. But WWE shocked everyone when Kalisto was drafted to SmackDown. SmackDown already has a packed midcard and Kalisto is most likely going to be restricted to a jobber there.
Carmella split up from Enzo and Cass
One question that the WWE fans had right from the debut of Enzo and Cass was about the future of Carmella. Carmella was a mainstay with these two back in NXT but when WWE called up Enzo and Cass, she was left behind. The rumors suggested that the greenness of Carmella was the reason why she was kept on NXT but what happened on the draft makes no sense.
Carmella was drafted to SmackDown when Enzo and Cass remained on Raw which means that the so-called ‘greenness’ of Carmella will be exposed more than ever as she has no one to cover up.
Singles run for Braun Strowman
Bray Wyatt was split from his family during the draft and Erick Rowan and Braun Strowman getting separate picks suggests that they are bound to have singles run. Luke Harper, meanwhile, due to his injury perhaps was kept away from the draft completely. While Rowan has the experience to carry himself around if he is going for a singles run, it is a different story with Braun.
He is still green and the only thing that he has to show is his size, which is one of the main reason why backstage people are high on him. But this singles run is bound to be disastrous and after a few months, Braun will be relegated to just another giant on the roster.
Eva Marie gets her rub
To get a fact straight, I’m a big fan of Eva Marie. Though she cannot be categorized as a mature ‘wrestler’, she is a good performer and a hard worker. But what WWE did with her during the draft was something uncalled for. Eva Marie was called up from NXT and was placed straight into SmackDown. Now, this once again puts the pressure on Eva to deliver.
The draft has depleted the NXT Women’s division and this was the best opportunity for Eva to get some exposure and improve herself. But being on SmackDown will have an adverse impact as all of her mistakes will be blown out of proportion by the main roster fans.
Cesaro gets a low pick
After the drafts, Cesaro was interviewed backstage after the draft and he expressed his disappointment about getting a low pick. It is understandable from Cesaro’s side as he was only picked in the sixth round of the draft. Cesaro is a Superstar that has managed to improve over the past few months and there were some pure emotions from his during the interview.
Cesaro also pointed out that the limelight should be on the Superstars and not Mick Foley or Stephanie McMahon. In short, it was a revolutionary segment from Cesaro, but at the same time, it reminds us that he deserved a higher pick so as to underline his credibility in the roster.
