WrestleMania X-8 marked the return to the Showcase of the Immortals of Hulk Hogan. The Hulkster's first WrestleMania in nine years, WWE needed a big opponent for him, and they had one in The Rock.

While Rock versus Hogan was an unmitigated success, apparently the original plan was to have Stone Cold Steve Austin face Hulk. While it's never been confirmed that this mega-match was ever discussed, it's still a head-scratcher as to why it never happened.

Not only were there rumours that the match would take place at WrestleMania X-8, there was also talk of it happening at WrestleManias XX, 21 and 25. It never did, of course, and now that both men are retired, it never will.
