It's hard to deny that Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan are the two biggest stars professional wrestling has ever produced. The two performers' careers effectively ran parallel to each other in different companies throughout the 1980s, until Flair came to WWE in 1991.

It didn't take Ric long to win the WWE Championship, overcoming 29 other men in the 1992 Royal Rumble match to win the title. It seemed a given that The Nature Boy would defend his title against Hogan at WrestleMania VIII, but it never happened.

There is no concrete answer as to why the match didn't go ahead and Flair defended his title against Randy Savage. Ric and Hulk would do battle in WCW a couple of years later, but it was nowhere near the spectacle it would have been at WrestleMania.
