At WrestleMania 27, The Rock cost John Cena his match against WWE Champion The Miz, and the two Superstars faced off on the RAW after WrestleMania to a huge pop. A match was set up between the two for WrestleMania 28, with 12 months to build up to the same. For the next one year or so, Cena vs The Rock was heavily promoted by WWE.
At WrestleMania 28, The Undertaker defeated Triple H inside Hell in a Cell, with Shawn Michaels as special guest referee. CM Punk defeated Chris Jericho to retain his WWE title, while Sheamus was crowned the World Champion after squashing Daniel Bryan in a matter of seconds. But there wasn't a chance of any of these bouts headlining the show when WWE had something of the caliber of The Rock vs Cena. The "Once In A Lifetime" dream match was won by The Brahma Bull. At next year's WrestleMania, Cena returned the favor by defeating The Rock for the WWE title.

Given the opportunity to script WWE’s next big storyline, Abhilash would treat fans to the second installment of The Bloodline Civil War. He would book Roman Reigns to re-form The Bloodline with The Usos and Sami Zayn upon his comeback. The angle would see The Tribal Chief-led group go head-to-head with The Rock, Solo Sikoa, Tama Tonga, and Jacob Fatu in a blockbuster family feud.
