#4 The WrestleMania IV tournament
From one Randy Savage world title victory at WrestleMania to the other, WWE also crowned The Macho Man following a show-long tournament in 1988. The company held an entire tournament for the vacant WWE Championship at WrestleMania IV, but it did not come off well at all.
There were 16 matches on the card, with barely any of them truly standing out as a great match. It ultimately bored a lot of fans to tears at 'Mania, including Vince McMahon. Tournaments in WWE like King of the Ring are generally fun. But this was an exception.
Bruce Prichard spoke about the 1988 edition of the Show of Shows on the 'Something to Wrestle' podcast, stating that McMahon already hated the tournament format while booking WrestleMania IV.
WWE did not hold another tournament at the event, following the failed experiment. It sucked the life out of WrestleMania IV. The only saving grace was Randy Savage's aforementioned victory, as he defeated Ted DiBiase in the tournament final to win the WWE Championship.
