Not too long ago, Daniel Bryan made his in-ring return against AJ Styles, and since then has been on a roll, beating Big Cass and breaking the record of the longest time spent in a royal rumble match.
While it all seems smooth sailing, it has been revealed that Daniel Bryan has not signed a new contract with the WWE and his current contract is nearing its expiry date.
While staying in WWE seems more plausible, one can't help wonder what happens if he does decide to leave.
Well, he won't have a shortage of quality opponents, moreover, some could be matches which may be even bigger than any matchup in the WWE.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
So here's a look at 5 professional wrestlers who could square up with Daniel Bryan
#5 Tetsuya Naito
Tetsuya Naito is one of the most beloved wrestlers at NJPW right now and is not too shabby in the ring either. The leader of the Los Ingobernables de Japon would be a worthy opponent for someone like Bryan.
His popularity in Japan would definitely rival Bryan's and the in-ring work would be superb. Considering it's more of a matter of 'when' than 'if' he would become IWGP champion, a long hard fought match for the title would not only expose NWJP's rising star to a whole new audience in the States and beyond, but also fill the Tokyo Dome to the brim.
#4 Kazuchika Okada
Current IWGP champion Kazuchika Okada is definitely one who is, later on, going to be talked about as one of the greatest Japanese Wrestler ever. His trilogy of world-class matches against Kenny Omega proved that he is a highly skilled operator in the ring and has amazing charisma.
An in-ring masterpiece is what we expect when these two get in the ring. I dare say this could be the best match Bryan will ever be involved in. While it's not as likely, it would be a shame if this encounter never took place.
#3 Kenny Omega
Kenny Omega has come a long way since his debut in February 2000. He has established himself as one of the best wrestlers in the world right now.
Apart from being the first IWGP US championship and the leader of the Bullet Club before being removed, he was part of the best modern-day trilogy of matches with Kazuchika Okada.
He's a bonafide superstar and a match with Bryan would be a dream match for many who are exposed to the world of wrestling. Omega's match with Jericho is also a statement of him standing up to legends and shining, so he would cherish a match up with Bryan.
#2 Dalton Castle
The history Daniel Bryan shares with Ring of Honour is well documented. Hence it is highly probable that Bryan heads to his former promotion first. Considering the crowds and mainstream media Bryan will bring to the promotion, it will be a huge mistake not to put the title on Bryan.
Dalton Castle's gimmick is of a character who shows both masculine and feminine characteristics, something like Goldust. But his showman gimmick is a major fan favorite and he is no slouch in the ring. It would be an interesting match to witness, seeing how two polar opposite characters work in tandem.
#1 Cody Rhodes
Cody Rhodes has had quite an unbelievable time since he left the WWE. He became ROH world champion by beating Chris Daniels, joined the Bullet Club, and is now their self-proclaimed leader. The only blemish is that he lost the world championship to Castle, something he would like to rectify.
It would be shocking if the younger son of the great Dusty Rhodes does not challenge Bryan once he makes his way to ROH.
As the leader of the Bullet Club, winning the belt from Byran or defending it against him would solidify his status as the alpha of the group. Moreover, it would be quite a delight to see these ex-WWE talents tear it up wherever they fight.
