Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano were best friends, they were tag-team partners, they were #DIY. They had scraped and clawed just to be signed by the WWE. And then, all their hard work began to pay off. They won the NXT Tag Team Championships. They were one of the best tag-teams in the world. They were beloved by audiences everywhere. All of their dreams were coming true. And the best part? They did it all together.

They eventually lost their championships, but it was okay. They were still living the dream. They were getting a rematch. And most importantly, they had each other.

The year was 2017, the scene; NXT Takeover: Chicago. All they had to do was defeat two hulking brutes, the Authors of Pain, in a ladder match.

Easier said than done. Long story short, #DIY lost despite a valiant effort.

But it was okay. You win together, you lose together. Their bond had never been stronger. At one point in the match, Johnny Gargano actually pushed Tommasso Ciampa out of the way of a ladder shot and took it himself. He literally sacrificed his own welfare for his friend.

His reward? A sickening assault by Ciampa.

By the end of it, Johnny Gargano looked both heartbroken and confused. As did all of us who watched it.
