3: Bret 'Hitman' Hart

Bret Hart may be an icon of the WWE and a former WWE Champion, but his career-ending injury did not come during his tenure there.
Leaving the company in 1997 following the Montreal Screwjob, Hart joined WCW, capturing their world championship as well.

It was as a part of the Atlanta-based promotion though, that his in-ring career would come to an end.
Meeting fellow future-Hall of Famer Bill Goldberg in the ring in 2000, Hart got hit with a swift kick to the head, causing a severe concussion.
After suffering from memory loss, Hart was diagnosed with post-concussion syndrome and faced no other choice than to retire.
Though the Hitman would compete at WrestleMania 26 against Vince McMahon, it was a street fight, and the Canadian legend was clearly not a wrestler anymore.
