#3 Bret 'Hitman' Hart Vs. The Rock
1997 was a huge year for the WWF. Seen by many as a year of huge changes for the company, this was personified by Bret Hart, who had gone from beloved hero, to reviled villain in the eyes of the fans.
Meeting a rookie Rocky Maivia in March for the latter's Intercontinental Championship, the Hitman hoped to regain a title that had been synonymous with him but was constantly outmatched by the pre-Brahma Bull.
Things eventually boiled over for the Canadian, who lost the match via Disqualification after refusing to break his ring-post figure-four, the same move he had punished Steve Austin with at WrestleMania 13.
By the end of the year, Hart would be gone from the company due to the Montreal Screwjob, and Maivia would've changed drastically, becoming The Rock.
