One of the things that is equally great and frustrating about WWE is that they have a tendency to think completely outside the box. Whether it’s putting a title on a complete randomer or coming up with a bizarre gimmick, Vinnie Mac knows how to get the dirt sheets talking and has been doing so for well over three decades now.
So why not capitalise on that idea and take things back to the old days?
By this, we, of course, mean having the ex-wives of certain Superstars re-appear on WWE television to give certain storylines a boost in terms of interest levels. Sure it would be incredibly risky, especially with a few of the names on this list, but you can’t deny that it would draw ratings.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
Things like this would add an increased sense of realism to the product, and god knows WWE has been lacking that over the last decade or so. They’ve done well with things like the mixed tag feud heading into WrestleMania 33, but they haven’t really done anything to expand on that as of yet.
Could this be an idea that shocks everyone and actually ends up being decent? Probably not, but let’s give it a go. So without further ado, here are five WWE ex-wives that could spice up current storylines.
#1 Torrie Wilson
This one might be considered “cheating” considering Torrie’s ex-husband is Billy Kidman, but the guy is still with the company so let’s just go with it. Torrie hasn’t been seen in the company for years now and it’s about time that we saw a return, especially when you consider how over she was back in the Attitude Era.
You could have her heel things up by demanding a featured spot on the weekly product, with officials having to come out and take her backstage – including ex-husband Kidman. You could build this into the Welcoming Committee storyline, with Natalya and co deciding to take Torrie under their wing as the protected veteran.
This next one could cause some controversy.
#2 Taryn Terrell
Taryn Terrell, also known as the former leader of the Dollhouse over in TNA, was tipped for good things in WWE due to her striking looks and character potential. Unfortunately, a supposed argument with then husband Drew McIntyre led to her being suspended from the company during her first tenure, with her ‘anger issues’ being highlighted by fans online ever since.
So with Drew attempting to rise up the ranks in NXT, what better way for his momentum to be kayfabe derailed than by having his ex show up? It would certainly be risky, but the whole ordeal could last just a few weeks before he reverts back to his badass ways.
This is probably our least favourite idea of the five, but we’d still like to see Taryn pop up on WWE again.
Oh, Karen.
#3 Karen Jarrett
Before Karen Jarrett was Karen Jarrett, she was Karen Angle – oh it’s true, it’s damn true.
The TNA executive turned model was with Kurt for a long time before switching over to Jeff Jarrett, which actually ended up being a storyline on Impact. It was both riveting and a bit dull all at the same time, but Karen came across quite well as a character.
Once Stephanie returns, we think a great way for her to still get at Kurt whilst not being on TV every week would be to hire Jarrett as a punishment of sorts. The two would bicker back and forth with all of the decisions that need to be made before Steph eventually comes back and sends Karen off packing to TNA once again.
#4 Sable
Sable is one of the most desirable divas to ever step foot in WWE, with her Playboy cover, in particular, being a highlight for many members of the WWE Universe. During her stint with the company, she was embroiled in many fascinating storylines, but one that we think needs exploring that little bit more is one with current husband Brock Lesnar.
We're counting Sable as an ex-wife due to her past marriage to Marc Mero, so we’re getting out of this on a technicality. Essentially Sable’s return would be used to build up Lesnar’s monstrous run even more, with him completely dismantling an opponent of his (hopefully Roman Reigns).
Then, Sable runs out and pleads with him to stop. How’s that for realism?
This would be..interesting.
#5 Terri Runnels
Terri Runnels, the ex-wife of none other than Goldust, flip-flopped between being loved and hated during her WWE tenure. Since then she’s been involved in a lot of charity-based work, but fans have always been interested to find out what would happen if she popped up for one more appearance.
In our humble opinion, we think it’d be a great idea for Terri to link up with Golden Truth in what could lead to a series of thoroughly amusing backstage skits. It may not work out and fans might not respond to it, but given the personalities involved it’s got a lot of potential to be quite comical.
