As basic as they come, this maneuver isn't likely to generate a massive response from the crowd today and the match would go on without any sort of drama generated. The exception to this rule, of course, is when ‘Sting’ used it as his finisher.

Popularized during his WCW days, Sting hit his opponents with a finisher that garnered a monstrous pop from the crowd every single time. This came as a surprise because ending your matches following a simple “Inverted DDT” was (and still is) considered quite weak.

But then again, with a name like that, it's not difficult to see where most of the hype associated with this move comes from. Extra marks for the fact that merely shouting out “Back off dude, or you'll be receiving a Scorpion Death Drop” can help prevent so many bar fights.
