WWE is preparing to crown the next King of the Ring, as the finals of the ongoing tournament will take place at the King and Queen of the Ring Premium Live Event on May 25, 2024, in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Fans are excited to see which superstar will add the precious accolade to their list of achievements.
On the latest episode of Monday Night RAW, Gunther defeated Jey Uso in the semifinals of the 2024 King of the Ring tournament and will now take on either Randy Orton or Tama Tonga, who will collide for a place in the finals this Friday on SmackDown. The winner of the finals in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, will succeed Xavier Woods and will become the next King of the Ring.
Over the years, some of the top superstars in WWE have won the King of the Ring tournament. Let's have a look at five WWE legends that have won the prestigious tournament.
#5. Stone Cold Steve Austin
Back on June 23, 1996, Stone Cold Steve Austin defeated Jake "The Snake" Roberts and became the King of the Ring. It was a big win for Austin, and it also marked the beginning of the "Austin 3:16" era.
Throughout his career, The Texas Rattlesnake put on dominating performances in WWE and has gone down in history as one of the greatest wrestlers of all time.
#4. Triple H
Triple H has a long list of achievements in his legendary career. The Game has also won the King of the Ring tournament. Back on June 8, 1997, he defeated Mankind and became the new King of the Ring, succeeding Stone Cold Steve Austin.
Paul Levesque has now taken over WWE after becoming the new Chief Content Officer and the way he is running the Stamford-based company has brought a lot of excitement to fans.
#3. Kurt Angle
Like Stone Cold Steve Austin and Triple H, Kurt Angle is considered one of the top stars in WWE history. He became a world champion several times and is also a WWE Hall of Famer.
Among his accomplishments, he won the King of the Ring tournament, after defeating Rikishi on June 25, 2000.
#2. Edge
Edge, now known as Adam Copeland, became King of the Ring one year after Kurt Angle. The Rated-R Superstar was the one who dethroned Angle after the two faced off back on June 24, 2001.
Since then, Edge went on to become a massive name in the company, as he won all major titles and cemented himself as a megastar. He had to retire in 2011 due to a neck injury but he eventually made his epic return in 2020.
As he is getting closer to retirement now, Edge is competing in AEW as Adam Copeland. Several former WWE Superstars have moved to AEW over the past few years and vice versa.
#1. Brock Lesnar
Brock Lesnar is considered a WWE legend. Over the years, The Beast Incarnate has become a part-timer and always competed for the major titles. He is currently on a hiatus and it is unclear when he will come back to the Stamford-based promotion.
A multi-time World Champion, Brock Lesnar has become the King of the Ring among his other accomplishments. To do so, he had to defeat Rob Van Dam in a match that took place on June 23, 2002.
Brock Lesnar is among the top WWE Superstars who became the King of the Ring, but it seems like fans have forgotten about it.
