Since his departure from WWE back in 2014, Batista has made it quite clear that if he were to come back, he'd only want to work the live events, simply because working television and pay-per-views for the company is too much to deal with.

In short, the ex-WWE World Heavyweight Champion just doesn't want to deal with the "BS" that comes with being on WWE TV.

One of the reasons why he enjoys working WWE's house shows so much is because of the freedom he has to pretty much do whatever he wants, which is exactly what he'd have if he were to go out on the independent wrestling scene.

Now, there are a few reasons why Batista would probably never do this, with the most obvious one being that he only has a few matches left in him, and he probably wants those matches to happen in WWE. But, if he ever decided to wrestle outside of WWE, he'd probably be extremely successful, especially as a heel.
