Stone Cold first won the Royal Rumble at the 1997 event when he eliminated Bret Hart. He had an impressive showing in that Royal Rumble as he lasted 45 minutes and had 10 eliminations. In the 1998 Royal Rumble, he won the match after he eliminated The Rock, and went on to capture the WWE title for the first time at Wrestlemania that year when he defeated Shawn Michaels.

With that win, he cemented himself as the face of the organisation as he led the WWE in ushering in the Attitude Era. Steve Austin also won the 2001 Royal Rumble after eliminating Kane, who had made 11 eliminations. This led to his second Wrestlemania encounter with the Rock.

The other Superstars close to breaking this record are John Cena, Hulk Hogan, Shawn Michaels, Randy Orton, Batista and Triple H, all with two wins apiece.
