5 WWE Superstars who were lined up to join legendary factions

The Shield could have been a lot different
The Shield could have been a lot different

#1 Former WWE Superstar CM Punk could have joined The Shield

Survivor Series 2012 saw three mystery men invade the main event of the night, wreaking havoc, and helping CM Punk retain his WWE Championship. Later, the trio was revealed to be NXT Superstars Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, and Dean Ambrose, dubbed as The Shield.

The Shield completely ran through the entire WWE roster, not even sparing legends like The Undertaker. The early days of the faction saw them mostly help the WWE Champion CM Punk in his feuds. It was later revealed through backstage footage that Paul Heyman was paying The Shield to work for him and help Punk.

It was actually CM Punk himself who was the brains behind creating The Shield and the original members could have been different. There were plans of him being the leader of The Shield, or even include someone like Kassius Ohno, but WWE ultimately decided to go with the trio of Reigns, Rollins, and Ambrose.

The Shield is undoubtedly one of the most dominating factions in WWE history. What makes it even more legendary is the fact that every single member has had great success individually as well. With Ambrose gone from WWE now, it is highly unlikely that we will see the trio join forces again.
